DAYTON/INDIANAPOLIS – The Horizon League released its 2021 Golf All-Academic Team on Tuesday, recognizing student-athletes for their success both in competition and in the classroom. Wright State seniors
Bryce Haney and
Austin Schoonmaker were among the six student-athletes who were honored in balloting by the League's faculty athletics representatives.
This spring, Haney carded four Top 20 finishes, with a pair inside the Top 10, including a fifth-place finish at The Jewell in March and was tied for fifth at the Horizon League Championship. He has appeared on seven consecutive Horizon League Academic Honor Rolls, dating back to the 2017 Fall listing. Haney was a member of the 2019 Horizon League Golf All-Academic Team and also the 2019 All-Tournament Team, while his play earned him Freshman of the Year honors in 2018. Haney's work in the classroom has earned him a spot on the Wright State University Dean's List in six of his undergraduate semesters leading to his degree in Spring 2020, including two semesters with Highest Honors recognition.
Schoonmaker carded six Top 20 finishes this spring, five of those inside the Top 10, and finished tied for first at the Wright State Invitational in mid-April and was tied for fifth at the Horizon League Championship. He has appeared on seven consecutive Horizon League Academic Honor Rolls, dating back to the 2017 Fall listing. Schoonmaker was a member of the Horizon League Golf All-Academic Team following the 2018, 2019 and 2020 seasons, and earned All-League First Team honors this spring. His work in the classroom has earned him a spot on the Wright State University Dean's List with Highest Honors in all eight of his undergraduate semesters leading to his degree in Spring 2020.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests.
