Raiders turn in strong effort Saturday afternoon at IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS – The Wright State men's soccer team finished the afternoon with more shots than IUPUI on the road Saturday afternoon, but the hosts found the back of the net and handed the Raiders a 1-0 loss to open Horizon League play.
 
The Raiders (1-3, 0-1) outshot IUPUI 19-13 overall while tallying a 9-4 advantage in shots on frame, but it was the Jaguars (2-1-1, 1-0) who grabbed the win thanks to a 30th minute goal from Rayan Choukri.
 
Wright State tallied nine first half shot attempts, including seven that forced IUPUI saves, and followed that up by outshooting the hosts 10-5 in the second 45 minutes. Conner Osterholt, making his first start of the season, finished with a match-high five shots, including three on frame. Joe Kouadio added four attempts, while Harvey Slade notched three shots, all on frame.
 
Raider goalkeeper Sebastian Jumenez record three saves, while IUPUI keeper Lucas Morefield finished with seven saves on the other end of the field.
 
Wright State is back in action on Tuesday night, as the Raiders stay on the road to make the short trip north to take on Bowling Green. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
