2021-22 Horizon League Men's Basketball Schedule Unveiled

DAYTON/INDIANAPOLIS – The Horizon League announced its 2021-22 men's basketball conference schedule Wednesday afternoon, with the Raiders now knowing the road ahead to navigate through the 22-game conference slate.

The Horizon League schedule begins with a single weekend of action to open December before Wright State dips back into the final three games of its non-conference schedule before the Horizon League slate opens in full to ring in the new year.
"We feel this is the strongest the League has been since we have arrived on campus," head coach Scott Nagy said. "We look forward to the schedule we have ahead of us."

The Raiders will open League play on the road, with a weekend trip to Purdue Fort Wayne on December 2 before a meeting with Cleveland State on December 4. Wright State closes the books on 2021 and turns the page to the new year at home inside the Nutter Center with visits from Milwaukee (December 30) and Green Bay (January 1) as part of a four-game homestand. Wright State will embark on a five-game road trip, its longest of the League slate, from January 10-22, with visits to Northern Kentucky, Robert Morris, Youngstown State, IUPUI and UIC.

The end of January and start of February brings another four-game set to the Nutter Center, along with the start of the second half of League play, with Cleveland State, Purdue Fort Wayne, Detroit Mercy and Oakland coming to town. A trip north to Green Bay and Milwaukee comes on February 9 and 11 before a home matchup with Northern Kentucky on February 13. After a quick visit to the Detroit metro area for contests against Oakland (February 18) and Detroit Mercy (February 20), the Raiders close the regular season with a pair of home games. Wright State takes on Youngstown State on February 24 in the penultimate regular season contest before ending the slate with a matchup against Robert Morris on February 26.

The opening rounds of the Horizon League Basketball Championships will once again start on campus with early round matchups set for March 1 and 3. The top-four teams in the regular season will earn a bye to the quarterfinals and a home game on March 3. The first round will feature the teams placing fifth through 12th competing on campus at the highest-available seeds on March 1. The semifinals and Horizon League championship game are set for March 7 and 8 inside Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis.

Purdue Fort Wayne (Dec. 2, Fort Wayne | Jan. 30, Nutter Center) Fort Wayne is coming off of an 8-15 record with a 6-14 conference mark in their first season in the Horizon League last season. Wright State and Fort Wayne did not meet last year, with the Raiders leading the short series 9-3. The last meeting came during the 2006-07 season. Seven of the 11 matchups came during the 1980's.
Cleveland State (Dec. 4, Cleveland | Jan. 28, Nutter Center) Cleveland State finished the 2020-21 season with a 19-8 overall record and a 16-4 mark in Horizon League play on the way to the HL tournament title and a first round NCAA matchup. The Raiders split the two meetings the Vikings last season back in mid-January inside the Nutter Center. Wright State has won the seven of the last eight matchups and 11 of the last 14 meetings overall.

Milwaukee (Dec. 30, Nutter Center | Feb, 11, Milwaukee) Milwaukee finished 10-12 overall and 7-10 in the Horizon League last season, with the Raiders winning both regular season matchups – 11- and 12-point wins – inside the Nutter Center in mid-February. The Raiders hold a slight 35-30 lead over Milwaukee in the overall series, including six in a row and 11 of the last 15 meetings.

Green Bay (Jan. 1, Nutter Center | Feb. 9, Green Bay) Green Bay finished the 2020-21 season with an 8-17 overall record, including an 8-12 mark in Horizon League play. The Raiders won both regular season matchups at home last year in late December, coming away with 13- and 14-point victories. A tight series throughout history, Wright State now has a slim, 34-33 overall series lead entering the season, as the Raiders have won nine of the last 10 meetings.

UIC (Jan. 6, Nutter Center | Jan. 22, Chicago) UIC recorded a 9-13 overall record last season with a 6-10 mark in Horizon League play. The Raiders won both regular season matchups in convincing fashion on the road last year, turning in 25- and 20-point victories in Chicago in early February. The Raiders hold a slight 34-31 lead in the overall series.

IUPUI (Jan. 8, Nutter Center | Jan. 20, Indianapolis) IUPUI finished with an 8-10 overall record in 2020-21, while the Jaguars were 7-9 in Horizon League play. Wright State winning both regular season matchups on the road, with 30- and 28-point victories, in late January. The Raiders hold a 17-3 overall series advantage entering 2021-22.

Northern Kentucky (Jan. 10, Highland Heights, KY | Feb. 13, Nutter Center) Northern Kentucky was 14-11 last season with an 11-7 Horizon League record. The Raiders and Norse split the two meetings last year to close the regular season, with NKU winning on Friday night before a Wright State win in the final game of the regular season the next night. Wright State leads the overall series 27-13 entering 2021-22.

Robert Morris (Jan. 13, Moon Township, PA | Feb. 26, Nutter Center) Robert Morris is coming off of a 4-15 overall record last year, with a 3-12 conference mark in their first season in the Horizon League last season. The Raiders won both regular season matchups at home last year in late January, coming away with nine- and 30-point victories. Last season's meetings were the first for the two programs since a pair of Wright State wins in 1977 and 1978.

Youngstown State (Jan. 15, Youngstown, OH | Feb. 24, Nutter Center) Youngstown State finished 15-12 overall and 9-11 in the Horizon League last season as the teams split their regular season matchups last January inside the Nutter Center. After a two-point loss on Friday night, the Raiders bounced back with a 38-point victory in the Saturday matchup. Wright State leads the overall series 49-14 entering the 2021-22 campaign, including wins in seven of the last nine meetings.
Detroit Mercy (Feb. 3, Nutter Center | Feb. 20, Detroit) Detroit Mercy finished 2020-21 with a 12-10 record and a 10-6 mark in conference play, with the Raiders winning both meetings last season in Detroit back in mid-December by double-digits. The Raiders lead the all-time series 36-27 overall, and have won 13 of the last 15 overall over the last seven seasons.

Oakland (Feb. 5, Nutter Center | Feb. 18, Rochester, MI) Oakland finished 12-18 overall in 2020-21, compiling a 10-10 mark in Horizon League play. Wright State and Oakland split a pair of matchups last year on January 1 and 2 in Michigan. The Raiders lead the overall series 16-8 against the Grizzlies.
