DAYTON – Thursday night's home opener was just what the Wright State men's soccer team needed, it turned out, as the Raiders tallied their first victory of the young season with a 2-1 win over Bradley at Alumni Field.
Wright State (1-2), who had dropped its first two games of the season, both on the road, with only one goal between the two outings, doubled that number in the first half with a pair of goals and hung on in the second 45 minutes to secure the win.
The Raiders got on the board in the 15th minute on
Joe Kouadio's second goal of the season, as he beat the keeper with a shot into the low left corner of the net. Wright State built on that, when
Alex Hummel, off an assist from
Ids Hannema, connected six minutes before the intermission.
Bradley (1-1) came out with pressure to start the second half, finishing the back of the net on Danny Collins' score in the 49th minute, but the Raiders were able to weather the storm and come away with the 2-1 win.
Wright State finished with 13 shots, including five shots on frame, with
Zion Beaton's three attempts leading the way as nine Raiders recorded shots. The Raiders outshot Bradley 13-9 with both sides putting five total shots on frame. Wright State goalkeeper
Sebastian Jimenez finished with four saves in the win.
Wright State now gets set to open Horizon League play on the road at IUPUI next Saturday, September 11 in Indianapolis.
