DAYTON — Danny Graves, the Cincinnati Reds' all-time leader in career saves, will be a guest speaker at Wright State baseball's 18th annual First Pitch Banquet on Friday, January 21, at 6 p.m. The event will take place on the main arena floor inside the Nutter Center.Â
Graves spent nine of his 11 Major League seasons with the Reds, which included 518 career appearances and 30 starts from 1996-2006. Collectively, he played for the Reds, Cleveland Indians, and New York Mets, compiling a career 43-33 record with a 4.05 ERA and 182 saves. The right-hander was a National League All-Star in 2000 and 2004. In 2002, he won the prestigious Lou Gehrig Memorial Award, presented annually to a Major League Baseball player who best exemplifies the giving character of the Hall of Famer.
After retiring from baseball following the 2006 season, Graves became a Major League Baseball analyst for a digital sports network 120 Sports/Stadium. He also has worked color commentary for ESPN/LHN at the Little League World Series regional tournament, for ESPN covering ACC baseball and for CBS Sports Network covering college baseball. Graves most recently served as an analyst for ESPN Radio, MLB.com, Sirius XM MLB Network Radio, and color commentary for MLB Network YouTube games of the week while guest-hosting MLB Now on MLB Network. Graves is currently in his fourth season filling in for the Reds on Radio broadcasts.
The First Pitch Banquet will consist of a sit-down dinner, program, silent auction, and a speech by Graves. The proceeds from the evening will benefit current and future student-athletes of the Wright State baseball program. The event cost is $80 for a general admission ticket and $1,200 for a VIP table (seats 10 guests). The VIP table includes a pre-event meet-and-greet cocktail hour and recognition during the program.
