Sogard announces additions of Arnold, Butler, and Martinez to Baseball Coaching Staff

DAYTON – Wright State head baseball coach Alex Sogard has announced the additions of Luke Arnold, Zac Butler, and Myles Martinez to his coaching staff.

Arnold and Butler rejoin the program as coaches after each playing for the Raiders under Coach Sogard, while Martinez joins the program following a five-year playing career at Ohio Dominican and Dallas Baptist Universities.

Arnold rejoins Wright State as an Assistant Coach focusing on the infield. The Lebanon, Ohio, native was a five-year member of the program, appearing in 173 games with 153 starts, hitting .251 with 103 RBIs. The infielder was part of five consecutive regular-season titles from 2021-2025, as well as four NCAA tournament appearances. In his senior season, Arnold earned Second Team All-League and Horizon League All-Tournament Team honors.

"I'm extremely excited to welcome back Luke to our coaching staff," Sogard said. "As an all-league player, he was a part of five regular season championships as well as four NCAA Regionals. His desire to win & love for this program will help him make an immediate impact on our student-athletes."

Martinez joins the Raiders as the Director of Pitching & Program Development. The former left-handed pitcher spent four seasons at Ohio Dominican before transferring to Dallas Baptist for his senior season. In 2023, he was named an NCAA Division II Honorable Mention All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and garnered First Team All-Region honors from the ABCA, D2CCA, and NCBWA. During that season, he went 3-1 and recorded a team-high seven saves in 21 relief appearances … Compiled a 1.23 ERA and struck out 48 batters while issuing just nine walks in 44.0 innings of work.

"Myles is a tremendous addition to our staff, Sogard said. "As director of pitching & program development, he will oversee things on the pitching side as well as help with nutrition and other aspects of our program. His background & the knowledge he brings will be a huge benefit to our program."

Butler rejoins the Raider dugout as the Director of Player Development with a focus on Catching. The Columbus, Mississippi native played in 43 games for the Raiders, starting 41 in his senior season. Before joining the Raiders, Butler played his junior season at Arkansas State following a two-season stint at East Mississippi Community College. In his one season as a player for the Raidergang, Butler batted .254 with a pair of homers, one of which came in the Raiders' 6-0 win over then-ranked No. 19 Tennessee.

"As a player, Zac was the leader of our pitching staff as a senior catcher," said Sogard. "I look forward to Zac joining our staff as our director of player development/catching."
