Raiders roll in Friday sweep over Youngstown State

DAYTON – The Wright State volleyball team continued its winning ways on Friday night as the Raiders pushed their winning streak to 12 in a row with a three-set sweep over Youngstown State in Horizon League action inside McLin Gymnasium.
 
Friday's win came Raiders (17-3, 9-0 Horizon) completed the first half of Horizon League play, as each team plays everyone twice during the regular season. Wright State begins its second trip through the League next weekend at home against Oakland and Cleveland State.
 
Wright State took care of Youngstown State (8-11, 2-6 Horizon) for its seventh consecutive sweep as part of the winning streak, as the Raiders have only dropped one set in Horizon League play to date – the first set at Oakland on September 24 – and have now won 24 straight sets since then.
 
Sam Ott finished with a match-high 11 kills for the Raiders on Friday night, with Megan Alders adding 10 kills to also finish in double figures. Callie Martin finished the night with a complete stat line, tallying six kills, five service aces and a block to go along with her 13 digs. Alders and Taylor Bransfield each had four blocks while Jenna Story collected a match-leading 15 digs and Lainey Stephenson added 10 digs while passing out 31 of the Raiders' 37 assists.
 
SET ONE
Wright State got rolling and never looked back in the opening set, tallying the first 12 points of the night behind four service aces from Martin, three kills from Alders and a pair of kills from Bransfield. The Raiders later closed the set with three of the final four points thanks to a trio of errors from the visitors.
 
SET TWO
The Raiders again jumped ahead early, this time with four of the first five points before a five-point run by Youngstown State pulled the visitors within a point at 11-10. Another four-point spurt gave Youngstown State the lead at 14-13 before Wright State tallied eight of 10 points thanks to kills from Alders, Bransfield and Martin to push to set point at 24-18. Youngstown State didn't go without a fight, rolling off four straight points before an Ott kill closed the set at 25-22.
 
SET THREE
The sides traded points early in the set and Youngstown State lead at 11-9 before Wright State put its foot down. The Raiders tallied two separate five-point runs as they recorded 16 of the final 20 points overall to close the night in dominating fashion, led by four kills from Ott.
