DAYTON – A goal in the 16th minute by visiting Marshall gave the No. 6 Thundering Herd a 1-0 victory over the Wright State men's soccer team on Wednesday night in the Raiders final non-conference action of the season.
The Raiders (4-6-4, 4-1-2 Horizon) now have two critical Horizon League contests remaining to close the regular season, beginning with a visit to current HL leader Cleveland State on Saturday night. Wright State closes regular season by hosting Detroit Mercy next Wednesday afternoon. Cleveland State will enter the weekend two points ahead of the Raiders in the standings, but Detroit Mercy remains in striking distance and is tied for third place just two points back of Wright State as teams jockey to get the first-round bye in the HL tournament.
On Wednesday night,
Reece Allbaugh recorded four the Raiders' six shots, with one on goal, while
Jacob Adams and
Conner Osterholt had the other shots.
Guilherme Pipolo recorded four saves in net for Wright State, all coming in the first half, while allowing the lone goal.
Marshall's Joao Souza found the back if the net at the 15:56 mark off a sliding shot thanks to a pass from Matthew Bell, as Adam Aoumaich also was credited with an assist. Bell finished with a team-leading three shots for the visitors, who also got two shots from Souza and Milo Yosef, while keeper Oliver Semmle turned away both Raider shots on goal.
Chippy throughout, the match featured 23 total fouls and eight yellow cards.
