Volleyball sweeps Milwaukee behind three with double digit kills

MILWAUKEE – The Wright State volleyball team made quick work of Milwaukee with a sweep on Saturday night as the Raiders tied a program-best with their 16th consecutive victory.

Wright State (21-3, 13-0 Horizon) now returns home for its next three matches, beginning Tuesday night against Northern Kentucky.

The Raiders' 16 straight wins is tied with the 1985 and 2019 squads for the program's best.

Against Milwaukee (8-17,7-7 Horizon), Callie Martin recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs, while Taylor Bransfield added 11 kills of her own and Megan Alders was also in double digits with 10 kills. Sam Ott tallied nine kills as that quartet accounted for 41 of the Raiders' 46 kills in the sweep. Bransfield added five blocks to her final stat line as Martin and Jakyla Jackson each added four blocks. Jenna Story collected three of Wright State's six service aces and had eight digs as Milwaukee hit away from her, while Katie Meyer passed out 24 assists.

SET ONE
A back-and-forth set for the majority, the Raiders used a 6-2 run in the midpoint behind a pair of kills from Ott to take a 21-14 advantage. Milwaukee temporarily pulled to within striking distance with a 4-1 run to come to 22-18 but Wright State tallied three of the final four points behind a kill from Martin and a pair of Milwaukee errors to take the lead.

SET TWO
Close in the early going, the Raiders led by two at 10-8 before tallying 15 of the final 16 points, including a 10-0 run to close the set, as Alders, Bransfield, Martin and Ott all had multiple kills in the set as Wright State recorded a .472 team attack percentage in the set.

SET THREE
A 6-0 run by the Raiders early thanks in part to three Story service aces gave them a 7-3 advantage. The sides traded points the majority of the set from there, with each team mounting a mini, three-point run before Wright State closed the night with four straight points and ended the night behind a kill from Martin and a service ace from Ott.
