Raiders roll past IUPUI in straight sets

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The Wright State volleyball team wasted no time in dispatching host IUPUI on Saturday afternoon, as the Raiders won their 10th straight match and remained undefeated in Horizon League play.
 
Wright State (15-3, 7-0 Horizon) took the opening set 25-22 before rolling through the following sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-11 to wrap up action in a little over an hour, hitting .406 as a group in the final set for a .283 overall hitting percentage for the match while holding IUPUI (9-10, 3-4 Horizon) to a .110 team hitting percentage.
 
Seven different Raiders recorded kills in the sweep, led by Callie Martin's 13 kills as she was the only player on either side to reach double figures. Taylor Bransfield added nine kills of her own, while the Raiders tallied 12 service aces – including five from Lainey Stephenson, who also passed out 32 of Wright State's 34 assists. Jenna Story had 22 digs, the most on either side, which was exactly have of the Raiders' 44 total.
 
SET ONE
An early 5-0 run gave the Raiders the advantage in what turned out to be the most competitive set of the afternoon, as IUPUI responded with a 7-3 run of its own to take a slim advantage. The hosts later tallied a stretch of six of seven points to extend their lead, but the Raiders ended the set on an 8-1 roll behind kills from Megan Alders, Aaliyah Byers and Martin.

SET TWO
Wright State scored 10 of the first 13 points and never looked back, using eight errors from the hosts to build the advantage. The Raiders later used a 4-0 run that featured a kill from Sam Ott and a Stephenson service ace before ending the set behind kills from Alders, Bransfield and Ott.
 
SET THREE
The Raiders tallied six of the first seven points thanks for kills from Bransfield, Martin, Ott and Seiler Hruska, but the set was put to rest in with a 7-0 run as Wright State pushed to a 20-7 advantage behind kills from Bransfield, Hruska and Martin. The Raiders closed the afternoon with Stephenson's fifth and final service ace.
