KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Wright State women's basketball closed its road trip with a 96-57 loss against Tennessee on Sunday afternoon at Thompson-Boling Arena.
Chapman led the Raiders (1-8, 0-2 HL) with a season-high 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting and a 4-of-5 clip from 3-point range.
Isabelle Bolender finished with eight points and a team-best two steals, while
Bryce Nixon knocked down two 3-pointers and recorded three of Wright State's eight total assists.
Wright State held its own in the non-conference matchup, as the Raiders were down by just one possession, 20-17, after one quarter of play. WSU shot 4-of-8 on 3-pointers in the quarter while forcing Tennessee (6-5) to five turnovers.
The Raiders long-distance shooting continued to thrive in the second quarter with three 3-point makes on six attempts. Chapman's third 3-pointer of the game reduced Wright State's deficit to 27-25 with 7:07 left in the half.
Taylor Johnson-Matthew's layup at the 5:08 minute mark of the second quarter trimmed UT's lead to 30-27. However, the Volunteers ended the first half on a 14-6 run to go into halftime on top 44-33.
WSU finished the first half with 12 field goals, highlighted by a 7-of-14 clip from 3-point range. Chapman scored 13 of her game-high 18 points in the period on 5-of-7 shooting. Tennessee shot 51 percent (16-of-31) in the half but was limited to just two 3-pointers on nine attempts.
Tennessee opened the third quarter on a 10-2 run to go up 54-35 at the 6:25 minute mark. The Volunteers increased their edge to 71-42 by the end of the quarter to put the game out of reach. UT outscored WSU 52-24 in the second half, highlighted by a 66% (22-of-33) shooting percentage and a 23-to-6 rebounding advantage.
UT had four players score in double figures, led by Jordan Horston with 14 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
The Raiders will return to action on Saturday, December 17, against Southern Indiana at the Nutter Center.
