DAYTON — The Wright State women's basketball program opens the new year with a road matchup against IUPUI on Sunday, January 1. The Horizon League contest will tipoff at 2 p.m. and broadcast live on ESPN+. Live stats will also be available.

LAST TIME OUT
Wright State lost 73-50 to Northern Kentucky in its return to conference play last Wednesday. The Raiders led 15-13 at the end of the first quarter but were outscored 60-35 for the remainder of the game. WSU shot a season-low 30 percent (19-of-62) from the floor but found success with an 8-of-21 (38%) mark on 3-pointers. NKU went 47% (29-of-61) from the field, scored 50 of their 73 points in the paint, and won the rebounding battle, 53-29.
Two players scored in double figures, led by Bryce Nixon with 11 points. Kacee Baumhower totaled 10 points and four rebounds, while Emily Chapman finished with nine points and five rebounds. Cara VanKempen recorded a season-high six rebounds in addition to a team-leading two blocks.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Makiya Miller collected Horizon League Freshman of the Week honors after averaging 7.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.0 steals over two games at the Hawk Classic in Philadelphia, Pa. Through 13 games, Miller leads WSU freshmen in scoring (7.5 ppg), assists per game (1.9), and minutes per game (24.7). She scored in double figures in her opening three games as a Raider, becoming the first freshman player in the last 17 seasons to do so.
EARLY TESTS
All 12 Division I opponents Wright State has faced this season boast winning records, which include seven programs with three or fewer losses. WSU squared off against a pair of teams that reached the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 last season in Ohio State and Tennessee during the non-conference portion of its schedule.
SCOUTING THE JAGUARS
IUPUI is 5-6 overall and 1-1 against Horizon League competition under the direction of first-year head coach Kate Bruce. The Jaguars boast non-conference wins over Butler (67-61), Southern Illinois (80-76), Ohio (97-86), and Northern Illinois (85-72), in addition to an HL victory versus Milwaukee (64-55). The host team knocked down a school-record and Horizon League record 17 threes in their win over NIU.
The Jaguars lead the conference in 3-point percentage (36.2%) and 3-pointers per game (9.2) while also possessing top-three marks in free throw percentage (72.5) and assists per game (14.8). Destiny Perkins (13.8 ppg), Jazmyn Turner (13.4 ppg), and Rachel Kent (11.1 ppg) are scoring in double figures entering Sunday's matchup.
HISTORY VS. IUPUI
WSU leads the all-time series 13-6. The Raiders went 0-2 against IUPUI last season, but have still won six out of the last 10 meetings in the series. Two seasons ago, Wright State clinched an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament by defeating the Jags 53-41 in the Horizon League Championship title game.
HOT FROM DEEP
Bryce Nixon is shooting 47.1% (33-of-70) from 3-point range, which ranks first in the Horizon League and 25th nationally. The senior guard has knocked down a team-leading 33 threes, averaging 2.54 per game. Nixon leads the team in scoring (11.8 ppg), highlighted by a 20-point performance at Eastern Illinois (11/28) and a career-best 24 points versus Southern Indiana (12/17). She has scored in double figures in a team-best nine games, including four consecutive times entering Sunday's matchup.
FINDING A GROOVE
Cara VanKempen averaged 10.0 points on 58.3% (7-of-12) shooting and a 62.5% (5-of-8) clip on 3-pointers at last week's Hawk Classic. The senior forward recorded season-high marks in points (11) and 3-point makes (3) in WSU's matchup against EMU (12/21). VanKempen was averaging 3.6 points per game and had only made one 3-pointer entering the tournament.
SHOWING OFF RANGE
The Raiders rank 20th in the country and second in the HL with 8.7 3-pointers per game. Wright State made a season-high 12 treys on 29 attempts at EIU (11/28) and has netted double-figure 3-pointers on five occasions. To date, WSU is the conference's lone school with five-plus 3-pointers in every game this season.
CHAP AT HER BEST
Emily Chapman has proven to be a threat in her first year with the Raiders, as she ranks second on the team in shooting percentage (45.6%), 3-point percentage (42.1%), rebounding (3.3 rpg), assists (1.6 apg), and steals (0.8 spg). The Proctorville, Ohio native poured in a season-best 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting at Tennessee (12/11), scored 15 points at Eastern Illinois (11/28), and added a 14-point performance against Bowling Green (11/14). The 5-5 senior guard has been WSU's leading rebounder in three games.
BUILT IN OHIO
Six of WSU's seven total freshmen played high school basketball in Ohio — two from Greater Dayton, two from Greater Columbus, and two from Greater Cleveland. In total, ten individuals on Wright State's 15-player roster are from Ohio.
NEW-LOOK RAIDERS
This year's women's basketball roster features 12 newcomers, including five upperclassmen transfers and seven freshmen.
