Roberson scores career-high 27 points in loss to RMU

Box Score MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa.Jada Roberson's career-high 27 points were not enough, as the Wright State women's basketball team fell to Robert Morris 63-54 on Friday night inside the UPMC Events Center. 

In addition to a game-leading 27 points, Roberson tallied eight rebounds and one steal. KK White had 10 points and five rebounds, while Diamond Stokes added six points and 11 rebounds. Jada Wright made an impact defensively with nine rebounds and one block. 

WSU (3-20, 2-16 HL) shot a game-high 36-percent (20-of-55) overall but struggled with a 12% (2-of-16) clip from outside the arc and 63% (12-of-19) mark on free throws. The Raiders also managed to win the battle on the boards, 44-39. 

Defensively, Wright State mustered a season-low two steals, as Robert Morris (12-12, 10-9 HL) committed eight turnovers compared to an uncharacteristic 17 by WSU. The Colonials gained additional opportunities by pulling down 13 offensive rebounds, finishing the game with 13 more shot attempts than the Raiders. 

WSU opened the game strongly, leading 11-2 with 6:07 to go in the first quarter. RMU reduced its deficit to one possession on multiple occasions, but Stokes closed the period with a second-chance jumper to give the Raiders a 16-11 advantage. 

Channing Chappell and Roberson converted on consecutive jumpers to build Wright State's edge to 20-11 with 6:43 left in the second quarter. However, the Colonials responded with a 9-2 run, cutting WSU's lead to 22-20. RMU captured its first lead of the game in the half's final possession with a last-second layup. 

Roberson had 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting at the break to lead all scorers. She was the lone Raiders to score more than one basket in the period. Destyne Jackson was quiet offensively but pulled down four rebounds and added a steal. 

The momentum continued in favor of Robert Morris, as the home squad outscored WSU 20-6 in the third quarter. WSU was held to one basket in the span, while RMU went 9-of-17 shooting. 

Trailing 48-33 entering the final period, Wright State used a 12-3 run to close its deficit to 51-47 at the 6:16 minute mark. The Colonials answered back with a 5-0 run to increase their lead to 56-47 with 2:47 remaining in the game, a margin the Raiders could not overcome. 

Roberson paced the late charge with 13 points in the fourth quarter.

WSU will return to action on Sunday, February 20, at Youngstown State. The regular-season road finale will tip at 1 p.m.
