TULSA, Okla. — The Wright State baseball program ended its road trip with a 13-2 loss to Oral Roberts on Tuesday at JL Johnson Stadium.Â
The Golden Eagles (5-2) scored in the game's opening five innings, punctuated by a five-run first inning, to put things out of reach. Five errors plagued the Raider defense, leading to five unearned runs.Â
ORU starting pitcher Ledgend Smith (1-0) earned the decision by limiting WSU (0-6) to just one run on four hits in five innings of work. Colten Weber withheld a rally by pitching three scoreless innings in relief.Â
Gehrig Anglin hit a solo home run in the second inning for Wright State's first run of the day. WSU added a run on four walks in the top of the ninth inning.Â
Alec Sayre doubled in his first at-bat and reached on a walk in the eighth inning. Sammy Sass and Zane Harris had back-to-back singles in the third frame.Â
Wright State's Justin Hornschemeier (0-1) took the loss after allowing five runs — two earned — in two-thirds of an inning. Josh Laisure was a bright spot out of the pen, throwing a scoreless eighth inning with two strikeouts. Alex Theis, Bradley Deboutte, and Brock Nartker pitched in relief, allowing one or more runs apiece.Â
The Raiders will conclude their season-opening road swing at Virginia Tech from March 4-6.
