Raiders lead, three inside the Top 10 heading into final round

ORLANDO – The Wright State golf team is the only group under par after the first two rounds of the Orlando Invitational on Monday, as the Raiders will enter Tuesday's final round with a 12 shot advantage on the team leaderboard with three Raiders inside the top 10 individually.
 
As a team, the Raiders opened the first 18 holes with a four-under 284 before closing the first day at three-under after a second round 289 team scorecard. Tyler Goecke sits tied for third at two-under, Bryce Haney is one shot back in a tie for fifth and Cole Corder is one-over and tied for ninth as the field heads into Tuesday. Action tees off Tuesday morning at 7:30 a.m. at the Mission Hills Resort & Club.

Goecke carded eight birdies across his 36 holes on Monday and is one shot back of the individual lead after turning in an opening round of 70 and following that up with a second round 72. Haney also had an opening round 70 and finished his Monday with a pair of eagles – one in each round – along with six birdies but tallied a pair of double bogeys in the second round to card a 73 and sit at one-under heading into Tuesday. Corder mixed birdies and bogeys throughout his 36 holes, carding a first round 71 before a 74 his second time through the course as he tallied nine birdies but added eight bogeys and a double bogey on his card.
 
Mikkel Mathiesen bounced back with a second round 70 following an opening round 77 and sits at three-over in a tie for 15th heading into Tuesday. Davis Root is one shot behind him at four-over in a tie for 21st following rounds of 73 and 75, while Andrew Flynn, playing as an individual, carded rounds of 76 and 77 to sit at nine-over in a tie for 43rd with 18 holes to play.
 
Corder's nine total birdies were the most of any player on Monday, while Haney's two eagles were among the five total over the 36 holes.
 
The Mission Hills Resort & Club will also be the site of the 2022 Horizon League Championship April 24-26, with the Raiders and seven other Horizon League teams part of the 12-team field this weekend. Purdue Fort Wayne enters Tuesday in second as a team at eight-over, followed by Cleveland State (nine-over), Youngstown State (12-over) and Oakland (13-over) to round out the top five teams.
