DAYTON — The Wright State baseball program fell into an early 4-0 hole, ultimately dropping a 6-2 decision to Indiana State on Friday at Nischwitz Stadium.Â
WSU (3-9) will conclude its three-game set on Sunday afternoon, with first pitch set for 1 p.m.Â
The Raider offense was quiet, finishing the day with seven hits and no walks. Alec Sayre and Gehrig Anglin hit solo home runs in the fourth inning, the only time Wright State reached the scoreboard. Sammy Sass went 2-for-4 at the plate, while Julian Greenwell and Justin McConnell added singles.Â
Wright State had chances to trim its lead with runners in scoring position in the fifth and sixth innings. However, the Raiders failed to bring across a run in both opportunities. The Raiders also struck out a season-low four times, but the Indiana State (7-5) defense was errorless with 12 assists.Â
Starting pitcher Jake Shirk (0-3) was tagged for four runs in the first inning, highlighted by a three-run homer off the bat of Sean Ross. He held the Sycamores (7-5) scoreless in his last three innings of work.Â
The WSU bullpen was a bright spot in the loss, allowing just two runs on eight hits in the final five innings of play. Right-hander Chris Gallagher had his best outing as a Raider, striking out four batters in two shutout innings. Josh Laisure tossed a scoreless eighth frame in relief.Â
ISU starting pitcher Matt Jachec (3-1) lasted seven innings on the mound, allowing just two runs on six hits in the process. Joey Hurth collected the save by closing the game with a pair of scoreless innings.Â
