He escaped a one-out bases-loaded jam in the fourth inning.
Jay Luikart went from center field to the mound with WSU up 13-10 in the bottom of the eighth inning. With runners on first and second, he induced two-straight outs to keep the Norse (6-14, 1-3 HL) from closing in any further. The lefty collected his second save of the year after holding NKU to one run in the ninth inning.
In the Horizon League contest, Wright State got off to a hot start, leading 12-4 after five innings of play. The Raiders plated four runs in the first inning, highlighted by an opposite-field three-run homer off the bat of Harris. WSU had a five-spot in the top of the fifth, thanks to a three-run double by Riemer, an RBI single by Greenwell, and a sac fly by Sass.Â
Northern Kentucky pushed back with six combined runs over the next two innings, cutting its deficit to 13-10. After both teams were scoreless in the eighth frame, Anglin connected on a solo homer to comfort the WSU advantage to 14-10. The Norse led off the bottom of the ninth with a solo roundtrip of their own, but Luikart retired the next three batters to seal the victory for WSU.Â
NKU starting pitcher Kyle Klingenbeck received the loss after allowing seven runs in four innings. The Norse offense finished with 12 hits, including three off the bat of Brennan Gick.Â
