Raiders set to tee off in North Carolina

DAYTON – The Wright State golf team is set for its first action in nearly a month, as the Raiders tee off in the Seahawk Intercollegiate on Sunday and Monday in Wilmington, North Carolina. Wright State last competed at the beginning of March, capturing a pair of team titles over a six day stretch.

Action gets underway Sunday at 8:30 a.m. with 36 holes before the final 18 holes on Monday.

The Raiders won the Orlando Invitational at five-under par and 22 strokes ahead of the nearest team to grab the team title back on March 1. Tyler Goecke captured individual honors as five Raiders finished inside the top 15 as they competed against seven other Horizon League foes were part of the 11-team field. Wright State capped the week with a come-from-behind team win at the Sea Palms Invitational on March 5. Individually, the Raiders had three players finish inside the top 15, paced by Goecke, who finished in a tie for third.

Wright State will be joined in coastal North Carolina by 13 other teams: Kansas, VCU, Appalachian State, Davidson, Richmond, Francis Marion, LIU, USC Upstate, Radford, Nebraska, James Madison, Delaware and tournament host UNC Wilmington.

The Raiders are currently ranked 89th and are joined in the field by another top-100 program Kansas, which is currently ranked 15th.

The Seahawk Intercollegiate will be contested at the Country Club of Landfall and will include the Pines and Marsh nines of the Nickalus Course. The par will be 72 and the course measures 6,960 yards. This will be Wright State's second time competing in the tournament after finishing second as a group in the 2021 event.Â
