Wright State has tallied nine team tournament wins in 12 total events spanning the fall and spring schedule, a new program record, and five different Raiders have captured an individual title this season as well. Tyler Goecke was named Horizon League Golfer of the Year and Conner Lash was named the HL Coach of the Year. In addition to the two major awards, Goecke was joined on the All-League First Team by Mikkel Mathiesen and Bryce Haney, while Cole Corder earned Second Team honors.
Â
Mathiesen was the 2022 Horizon League individual champion with his 13-under total, marking the first time a Raider has won the individual title since former Wright State standout Ryan Wenzler in 2016. Mathiesen's individual title is the seventh overall individual Horizon League honor in Wright State history, giving the Raiders the most individual champions in League history.
Â
Wright State captured its seventh Horizon League Championship in Florida earlier this month, where the Raiders led wire-to-wire to notch their ninth team title of the season, a program record, and their second Horizon League championship in the last three years the tournament was held. Wright State also previously won the Horizon League Championship in 1996, 1997, 2000, 2003 and 2004 before breaking the 15-year drought with the 2019 title. The seven team Horizon League titles are tied for the second-most in League history.
Â
Goecke will head into the NCAA Regionals with a scoring average of 70.47, which is currently ahead of the Wright State single season scoring record currently held by Wenzler. In addition to his four individual titles, Goecke has finished inside the top five on six other occasions, including finishing second at last week's Horizon League Championship.
Â
Mathiesen enters the postseason with a scoring average of 71.42, which is also ahead of Wenzler's pace, while he won last week's Horizon League Championship with a League record low round of 65 on Tuesday, the new lowest round in Horizon League Championship history. Mathiesen's three-round score of 203 set a new Horizon League record for lowest 54-hole individual score. Mathiesen also won the Valpo Fall Invitational and had five other top 10 finishes this season and also qualified for and played in the Qatar Masters tournament on the European Tour Event earlier this spring.
Â
Haney won the UD Invitational back in the fall and has six additional top 10 finishes this season, while his current scoring average of 72.26 is the eighth-best in program history. Corder enters the postseason with a scoring average of 72.53, 11th all-time in program history, while winning the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational in the fall and notching three other top 10 finishes. Root's current scoring average of 73.41 is tied for 17th all-time, while he added three additional top 10 finishes to go along with the Wright State Invitational title.
Â
The Scarlet Course at the OSU Golf Club will play at Par 71 and 7,422 yards for the NCAA Regional. The Scarlet Course features little elevation change, but a thick rough and tough greens. Jack Nicklaus redesigned all the greens in 2015 to accommodate the Korn Ferry Tour Finals event played yearly on the course.
