Martin, Raiders roll to Friday night sweep to begin weekend

CLEVELAND – The Wright State volleyball team opened weekend action with a three-set sweep at Cleveland State on Friday night as Callie Martin tallied a match-best 16 kills and Katie Meyer added a double-double while running the offensive attack.

Wright State (14-10, 10-3 Horizon) now heads towards a Saturday afternoon matchup at Oakland. Saturday's match is set for a 4 p.m. start and fans can follow the action via live stats or watch on ESPN+.

Friday night, Martin was hot right from the start, finishing the opening set with seven kills as the Raiders hit .484 as a group in the opening set on the way to a .230 overall hitting percentage. Cleveland State (14-10, 8-5 Horizon) managed just a .050 hitting percentage for the night, with the hosts' best set percentage coming at .150 in the second set.

Behind Martin, Reilly Zegunis recorded her second-straight double digit kill match with a 10-kill effort, while six Raiders tallied kills overall. Katie Meyer collected another double-double, passing out 30 of the Raiders' 35 total assists while adding 13 digs. Jenny Wessling finished with a match-best 23 digs, while Jenny Morey was also in double figures with 13 digs of her own.

SET ONE
Wright State jumped out of the gate with the first six points and 11 of the first 12 points overall behind three kills from Martin and a pair from Zegunis. A 10-4 run, aided by four more Martin kills, pushed the Raiders through the midway point of the set before Wright State used a kill from Zegunis and a Cleveland State error to close the set at 25-9.

SET TWO
A closer set, the Raiders gained separation with a 5-1 run in the middle of the action thanks in part to four Cleveland State errors before Wright State reached set point at 24-17. The hosts responded with the next four points to pull within three before a final error by Cleveland State gave the Raiders a 25-21 set win.

SET THREE
Wright State got off to a quick start with five of the first six points before later using a 7-2 run behind five kills from Martin to extend out to a 19-11 advantage. Cleveland State used an 8-1 run of its own to pull back into the match and trail by just one at 22-21, but a Raider timeout allowed Wright State to regroup and close the night thanks to three straight Cleveland State errors to end the sweep.
