Raiders set for home opener against Mount Vernon Nazarene

DAYTON — The Wright State women's basketball program welcomes Mount Vernon Nazarene to the Nutter Center for its home opener on Tuesday, November 4. The non-conference game will tipoff at 4 p.m. and stream on ESPN+. Live stats will also be available.

The Raiders are coming off a 99-55 loss at Michigan State last Sunday. Wright State raced out to a 19-15 lead in the road contest and closed the first quarter in a 19-all tie. MSU went on to outscore the Raiders 30-5 in the second quarter and 50-31 in the second half. Cara VanKempen paced WSU with a team-leading 16 points on 5-of-6 shooting and a 4-of-5 mark on 3-pointers. Makiya Miller chipped in with nine points, six assists, and two steals. Rachel Loobie pulled down a career-high eight rebounds off the bench.

The Raiders and Cougars have never met in regular-season action. Wright State's last game against an NAIA program transpired in 2022, where the Raiders defeated Ohio Christian 98-37. Five players reached double-figure scoring in the victory, led by Lauren Scott with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting to go along with a team-leading seven rebounds and five assists.

Graduate transfer guard Alexis Hutchison scored a game-leading 19 points on 7-of-17 shooting in Wright State's season opener at Southern Indiana (11/6). Her point total was the most in a Raider debut since Angel Baker's 21 points against CSU Bakersfield (11/6/18) at the start of the 2018-19 season.
Redshirt senior guard Layne Ferrell is averaging a team-best 12.5 points per game on 45.5 percent shooting. At USI, she stuffed the stat sheet with 16 points, three rebounds, three assists, four steals, and two blocks.

Jada Tate is up to 997 points over 114 collegiate games, while Julia Hoefling has compiled 89 career blocks.

Her brother Jalen was a four-year starter at Northern Kentucky (2016-2020) before spending the 2020-21 season at Arkansas. Her sister Jocelyn is currently a junior guard at Michigan State. Tate's father, Jermaine, played college basketball for Ohio State and Cincinnati before embarking on a 13-year professional career.
