Raiders set for three in Florida beginning Monday afternoon

DAYTON - The Wright State men's basketball team it set for three games over three days in Florida this week, tipping off tournament action at the Gulf Coast Showcase on Monday afternoon against Louisiana. The Raiders and Ragin' Cajuns will get started at 5 p.m. in Estero, Florida in the third of four games on the tournament's opening day.
Fans can follow the action several ways - via live stats, by watching on FloHoops or by tuning in to the new home for Raider Basketball 101.5 HANK FM and WING 1410 AM, where Chris Collins will have all the play-by-play on the radio feed.

Indiana native Andrew Welage turned in a career-high 25 points on Thursday as Wright State battled all night at Indiana, eventually coming up short 89-80. Welage scored his 25 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including connecting on seven of his 10 three-point attempts, with the points, overall shooting and three-pointers made all new career-bests, with the 25 points a game-high on both sides as well. In addition to Welage, Tanner Holden tallied 24 points as he reached the 20-plus point mark for the 27th time as a Raider and Alex Huibregtse added 15 points while connecting on a trio of three-pointers of his own. Welage, Holden and Huibregtse combined to shoot 51 percent between the group (21-of-41) while hitting 11-of-17 three-point shots and knocking down 11 of their combined 15 free throw attempts.
WELCOME BACK
This week marks Wright State's second visit to the Gulf Coast Showcase in the last five years after the Raiders also participated in the event during the 2019-20 campaign, winning two of three games in Florida that fall. Overall, it will be the Raiders' third late November trip to Florida in the same time frame after competing in the Naples Invitational during the 2021-22 season. Current Raiders Trey Calvin and Tanner Holden are the only remaining players on the Wright State roster from the previous visit to the Gulf Coast Showcase, where Calvin averaged 4.3 points per game and Holden added a 6.7 points per game average in supporting roles as part of their first months of collegiate action.Â
KNOW THE FOE
Louisiana has opened its 2023-24 season with a 2-1 record, tallying a home win over Horizon League foe Youngstown State to open the season before falling at Toledo. Louisiana is coming off a home win over NAIA foe Louisiana Christian on Wednesday, setting a school record with 18 made threes while winning their 17th straight home game, tying the second-longest streak in program history. Wright State and Louisiana have never met on the hardwood.
LOOKING FOE-WARD
- Buffalo and Hofstra are potential second round opponents this week in the bracketed-style tournament. The Raiders have played Buffalo once (Feb. 1992 inside the Nutter Center, 88-71 Raider win) and are 2-0 against Hofstra (Feb. 2011, 82-56 win at home & Dec. 2012, 63-57 road victory). The field also includes Illinois State (Raiders trail series 0-2), Iona (never played), High Point (Raiders lead series 2-0) and Long Beach State (Raiders trail series 0-1).
