Volleyball wins regular season home finale in four sets

DAYTON – The Wright State volleyball team rolled to its fifth straight victory on Saturday afternoon with a four-set win over visiting Green Bay in the regular season home finale inside McLin Gymnasium.

Wright State (17-10, 133 Horizon) now holds a two-match advantage atop the Horizon League with one week remaining in the regular season. The Horizon League Championship will take place November 17-19 at the site of the regular season champion. The Raiders wrap up the regular season next week on the road, traveling to Purdue Fort Wayne Friday night before visiting IUPUI next Saturday.

On Saturday, Green Bay (13-15, 11-5 Horizon) took the opening set 25-22 before the Raiders responded with three straight set wins – 25-22, 25-17 and 25-23 – as Wright State hit .290 as a group for the match and had four players with double digit kills.

Megan Alders led the way with a match-high 18 kills while Sam Ott tallied a double-double with 15 kills and 18 digs. Aaliyah Byers added 14 kills and Reilly Zegunis notched 13 kills of her own to complete the quartet in double figures offensively. Katie Meyer distributed 54 of the Raiders' 66 assists for a double-double of her own after she added 13 digs, while Jenny Wessling collected 16 digs and Callie Martin had 12 digs as well.

SET ONE
Green Bay jumped out to an early advantage with six of the first eight points and later had an 8-2 run to lead 16-9 before the Raiders pulled back into the set with an 8-2 run of their own thanks to four kills from Alders and three kills from Zegunis. Down four late, Wright State tallied four of the next five points to pull to one at 23-22 before Green Bay wrapped the set up with the next two points.

SET TWO
Back-and-forth for most of the set, Green Bay tallied two straight points to lead 18-15 before Wright State eight of the next nine points thanks in part to three Green Bay errors and kills from Byers, Martin and Ott. After another Green Bay attacking error pushed the Raiders to the edge, Wright State closed the set with an Ott kill to take the set 25-22.

SET THREE
Wright State used an early 8-1 run to gain the advantage and never looked back, later adding a stretch that saw them tally six of seven points. Green Bay tried to pull back into the set with a mini, four-point run but the Raiders closed the set with multiple kills from Alders and Zegunis to take the set 25-17.

SET FOUR
