Chapman’s career night leads Raiders past Milwaukee

MILWAUKEEEmily Chapman scored a season-high 28 points while also surpassing 1,500 career points as the Wright State women's basketball program took down Milwaukee 74-65 on Friday night inside the Klotsche Center. 

Chapman shot 12-of-15 from the field and 4-of-6 on threes, helping the Raiders (5-20, 4-11 HL) to their third Horizon League win in the last two weeks. She eclipsed 1,500 career points on a 3-pointer at the 7:27 minute mark of the third quarter. 

Kacee Baumhower reached double figures with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting, while Lauren Scott and Makiya Miller added seven points apiece. Rachel Loobie pulled down a team-leading five rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench. 

WSU shot an efficient 52.7 percent (29-of-55) overall, including a 37.5% (9-of-24) mark from beyond the arc. The Raider defense allowed Milwaukee (8-15, 6-9 HL) to a 51.9% (27-of-52) shooting percentage but only three 3-pointers on 13 attempts. 

Wright State found itself in a 14-point hole, 32-18, with 6:05 to go in the first half. However, the Raiders closed the second quarter on a 22-2 run to enter halftime in front 40-34. 

Chapman finished the opening half with 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting, including seven points in WSU's late scoring run in the second quarter. The Raiders also turned seven MKE turnovers into 11 points in the half.

The Panthers swayed the momentum to their side coming out of the break, gaining a 53-51 edge with 2:11 left in the third quarter. Scott and Miller responded with driving layups to give WSU a 55-53 lead, but Milwaukee scored the last bucket of the quarter to tie the conference matchup at 55-all. 

Chapman continued to be the focal point of the Raider attack in the third quarter, as she went 4-of-5 from the field to push her scoring total to 25 points. 

Wright State opened the final quarter of action on a 9-0 run to gain a 64-55 advantage. Baumhower had a pair of 3-point plays to pace the late charge. Milwaukee cut its deficit to 66-61 at the 4:12 minute mark of the fourth quarter, but Chapman and Bryce Nixon followed with back-to-back 3-pointers to push WSU's lead back to double digits, 72-61. 

WSU held the Panthers to just four points for the remaining three minutes of play to seal a 74-65 victory. 

The Raiders will continue their road trip on Sunday at Green Bay.
