Raiders knock off Oakland, 83-75

DAYTONIsabelle Bolender scored a season-high 23 points as the Wright State women's basketball program defeated Oakland 83-75 on Thursday night inside the Nutter Center. 

The Raiders improved to 6-23 overall and 5-14 in Horizon League action after winning for the fourth time in their last eight games. Wright State will conclude its regular season with a 1 p.m. Senior Day matchup versus Detroit Mercy on Saturday, February 25. 

Four WSU players reached double-figure scoring, highlighted by Bolender's 23 points on 7-of-10 shooting and a 4-of-7 mark at the 3-point line. Kacee Baumhower finished with 16 points, while Rachel Loobie totaled a season-high 12 points and a team-leading seven rebounds in 14 minutes off the bench. Bryce Nixon contributed with 10 points overall and a 2-of-5 clip on threes. 

The Raider defense forced Oakland (12-16, 7-12 HL) to 20 giveaways, finishing the night with a 29-2 advantage in points off turnovers. Nixon recorded a career-high five steals, while Emily Chapman added three in the category. 

Wright State shot an efficient 47.6 percent (30-of-63) from the floor, which included a 41.7% (10-of-24) clip on 3-pointers. WSU dished out 16 assists on its 30 makes, as five different Raiders tallied multiple helpers. The Raiders also made 13 free throws, good for their fourth-highest mark this season. Bolender led the team by going 5-of-6 at the charity stripe.

In total, the opening half featured seven ties and four lead changes. WSU faced a 31-25 deficit with 5:24 left in the second quarter but evened the game at 33-all at the 3:45 minute mark after eight consecutive points by Baumhower. The Raiders outscored OU 11-6 for the remainder of the period to enter halftime in front 44-39. 

Baumhower led the team in scoring at the break with 12 points (all in the second quarter), while Bolender had nine points on 2-of-3 shooting and a 3-of-4 mark on free throws. 

Oakland took back the lead, 46-45, after opening the third quarter on a 7-1 run. However, the Raiders responded with a 7-0 scoring spurt to gain a 52-46 edge and led 62-56 by the period's conclusion. 

The Raider bench outscored Oakland 11-0 in the third quarter, paced by Loobie with seven points and four points by Makiya Miller.

Wright State led by two possessions for the entirety of the fourth quarter on its way to an 83-75 victory. Bolender went off for 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting over the 10-minute stretch, while the defense forced Oakland to seven turnovers.
