Raiders close day one at Horizon League Indoor Championship

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Wright State men's and women's track and field program wrapped up its first day of competition at the Horizon League Indoor Championship. The men's team is tied for seventh place with five points, while the Raider women are ninth in the standings with five points. 

Anthony Jiovani recorded the first-ever points for the Raider men at a championship meet, as he placed seventh overall in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.71 meters. The mark tied his personal record in the event.

Wright State added three points with a sixth-place finish in the men's distance medley relay as Ethan Neblock, Mohamed Bilal, Patrick Statzer, and Alex McCarty raced to a time of 10:32.75.

Max Pettit took 13th out of 23 competitors with a time of 15:09.90 as WSU's lone representative in the men's 5,000-meter run. 

Michael Cole and John Steimle finished with times of 2:03.39 and 2:03.85 in the 800-meter run prelims, good for 19th and 20th overall. 

The distance medley relay team of Emma Johnson, Kylee Thomas, Alicia Neumeier, and Kaitlyn Miller headlined the women's program with a fourth-place finish (12:26.23). 

Emma Shigley earned 13th in the 5,000-meter run, crossing the finish line at 18:20.56.

Mia Wyngarden took 16th in the 400-meter dash prelims with a time of 1:01.39, while Anna Johnson was 17th in the 800-meter run prelims at 2:31.02.

Thomas and Callista Hess ran in the 60-meter hurdle prelims, finishing 20th and 22nd overall with times of 9.77 and 10.93. 

Tatiana Brown was 25th in the long jump at 4.36 meters.

The duo of Bekah Robertson and Melissa Siler competed in the opening five events of the pentathlon, tallying two top-10 marks apiece. Robertson earned seventh in the high jump (1.47m) and long jump (4.79m). Siler tied with Robertson for seventh in the high jump at 1.47 meters and added a ninth-place finish in the long jump (4.84m).

Action will resume on Sunday at 9 a.m. with heptathlon events. Field events will get going at 9:15 a.m., leading to running events at 1 p.m. The men's 4x400 meter relay will be the final event of the indoor championship.
