
Raiders tied for third after 18 holes in the desert

GOODYEAR, AZ – The Wright State golf team sits in a tie for third as a group with Cole Corder tied for seventh individually after the opening round of the Loyola Intercollegiate in Arizona on Sunday as all five Raiders are three-over or better.

Teams will play 18 holes again Monday at Palm Valley Golf Club before Tuesday's final round. Action will get underway with 9:45 a.m. ET shotgun starts each of the next two mornings.

As a group, Wright State carded a three-over 291 on Sunday while tallying 18 birdies, one off the day's high, and 51 pars. The Raiders did their damage on the scorecards on par fives, combining to go seven-under as a team on the four par five holes. The Raiders are tied with Utah Valley at three-over and look up at host Loyola Maryland (+1) and Marquette (-1) after 18 holes.

Corder recorded four birdies, including three in his first eight holes, on the way to his one-under 71 and will begin the second round three shots back of individual co-leaders Brady Kaufmann of SIU Edwardsville and Aryan Vuradi of George Mason. Tyler Goecke is one shot back of the logjam tied for seventh after his even par round of 72 that saw four birdies of his own but a double bogey on the par three 12th hole and two other bogeys scattered on his scorecard.

Mikkel Mathiesen is one-over (t26) after his round of 73 with a team-best six birdies, including four in a five hole span, but also five bogeys and a double bogey on the par five ninth hole. Andrew Flynn and Davis Root are among the group tied for 55th at three-over, with Root carding three birdies and Flynn with a birdie of his own after 18 holes.
