
Raiders tied for first, two in top 10 after opening round

ST SIMONS ISLAND, GA – The Wright State golf team is tied for the team lead after the opening round of the Sea Palms Invitational on Thursday while a pair of Raiders are inside the top 10 individually.

Wright State is 13-under as a group after an opening round 271 to sit in a tie with Davidson atop the 20-team leaderboard and begin Friday's second round two shots ahead of second place UCF as eight teams are even par or better after 18 holes. Friday action tees off at 7:10 a.m. in Georgia.

Mikkel Mathiesen is one of three players tied for second at six-under, one shot back of the individual lead, while teammate Tyler Goecke is four-under through 18 holes and is tied for seventh. Mathiesen collected four birdies in his first six holes Thursday on the way to seven total birdies and a round of 65, as Goecke tallied four of his five birdies over his final nine holes to close with a 67.

Andrew Flynn (-2, T21) and Davis Root (-1, T31) are also under par after the opening round, with Flynn carding five birdies on the way to his opening round 69 and Root tallying four birdies of his own with his round of 70. Cole Corder shot a five-over 76 and is tied for 94th while Adam Horn, playing as an individual, tied for 65th at two-over after 18 holes.

As a group, Wright State was a collective nine-under on the four par fives on Thursday, the third-best mark in the field behind Davidson and Western Kentucky (tied for fourth).
