URBANA, OH – A trio of Wright State golfers competed as individuals at the Ohio Dominican Bill Blazer Memorial, with freshman
Shane Ochs taking home top individual medalist honors with his four-under final score after he birdied his final hole to capture the title.
In addition to Ochs,
Adam Horn (t13, +3) and
Brock Rumpke (t19, +4) also finished inside the top 20 individually in the 36-hole event at Urbana Country Club, which played as a par 72, 6,757-yard layout over the last two days as the field battled cold and wet conditions.
Ochs turned in a two-under 70 in his opening round on Friday, negating four bogeys across his scorecard with a pair of eagles on the par five fourth and 17th holes while adding pair of birdies as he was tied atop the individual leaderboard after 18 holes. Saturday, he again eagled the 17th while his four birdies and four bogeys scattered across the remainder of his round canceled each other out as he turned in his second straight two-under round of 70. After bogeying the 10th hole (his 17th of the day), Ochs tallied a birdie on the par five 11th to end his round and capture the title.
Horn opened with an even par round of 72 on Friday with a scorecard featuring four birdies and four bogeys before a three-over 75 on Saturday, but he ended his final round with a pair of birdies over his final five holes. Rumpke tallied a four-over 76 on Friday with three birdies before an even par 72 on Saturday that saw three birdies, all coming over a six-hole stretch midway through the round.
The Raiders are back in action next week as they host the Wright State Invitational April 16 and 17 at Heatherwoode Golf Club before the Horizon League Championship the following week in Florida.
