Golf plays well in South Carolina in loaded field

PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC – The Wright State golf team continued fall action at the Golfweek Fall Challenge finishing fifth as a group in a deep field despite carding a 24-under team total over three rounds.

The Raiders jumped three spots on the team leaderboard in Tuesday's final round after carding a 12-under final 18 holes, while Mikkel Mathiesen and Shane Ochs led the way individually as both finished six-under in a tie for 18th. The rest of the Raider roster was bunched behind them, with Andrew Flynn finishing five-under (t25) and Kye Fisher four-under (t30), while Adam Horn, playing as an individual, finished three-under (t38) and Ian Asch was five over (69).

Sunday's opening round saw Asch and Horn card the best Wright State rounds at two-under as the field battled weather and a lengthy delay, while Monday was the best scoring round for the Raiders, with Mathiesen carding a six-under round, followed by a five-under round from Flynn and a four-under round from Horn. Ochs and Fisher led the way on Tuesday, each tallying final round five-under scores.

For the tournament, Wright State played par fours at eight-under, the fourth best in the field, while the Raiders were 12-under on par fives, sixth in the field. Wright State's 179 total pars were tied for the second-most in the tournament field, but the Raiders were eighth in the 14-team field with 59 birdies over the 54 holes.

The Raiders continue fall action next week at the VCU Shootout in Richmond, Virginia on Monday and Tuesday at the Country Club of Virginia.
