DAYTON – The Wright State volleyball team pulled out a thrilling, five set victory on Saturday afternoon against Cleveland State, paced by fifth-year seniors
Megan Alders and
Callie Martin.
Wright State (8-8, 4-1 Horizon) took sets two and three before rallying for a 15-13 fifth set win over Cleveland State (9-8, 3-3 Horizon) as four of the five sets saw the final set scores within three points.
Alders collected a match-best 21 kills, her third time this season with 20-plus kills, while Martin tallied her sixth double-double of the season (second of the weekend) with a 16-kill, 21-dig effort.
Reilly Zegunis just missed a double-digit kill night of her own as she notched nine kills while adding four blocks. Alders and
Aaliyah Byers also each had four blocks as well.
Andrea Bortulin passed out 52 assists in her first collegiate start, the most assists by a Wright State setter in a match since former Raider
Lainey Stephenson tallied 54 assists in a win over Western Michigan last September. Bortulin's 52 helpers Saturday came on the heels of her 45 assists in Friday's loss.
Jenny Morey had five service aces and Bortulin added four of her own, while
Jenny Wessling collected a match-best 27 digs.
