RIVERSIDE, IA – The Wright State golf team opened fall action this week, with
Mikkel Mathiesen finishing second overall to lead the Raiders, who finished fifth as a group, at the Iowa Fall Classic.
Mathiesen, who entered Tuesday's final round with a two-shot lead after 36 holes after rounds of 64 and 70, turned in a one-over 73 in his final round with two birdies and a trio of bogeys to finish nine-under for the tournament. His opening round 64 saw him play a bogey-free round with six of his eight birdies in the opening nine holes.
Wright State was six-over in Tuesday's final round, finishing the final day where it started after sitting in fifth as a group after Monday's action at three-over. Iowa State took home top team honors at four-under, followed by Iowa at two-under as the only teams under par for the tournament.
Iowa's Mac McClear turned in a final round 67 to finish 12-under overall, jumping from third place after two rounds, to take home individual honors.
Shane Ochs jumped 14 spots in his final round to finish tied for 11th at one-over overall, carding a final round 70 after rounds of 72 and 75 on Monday.
Kye Fisher finished tied for 19th in his first tournament as a Raider, opening with rounds of 70 and 77 on Monday before closing with a final round 73.
Ian Asch (t49) turned in rounds of 74, 77 and 78 to finish 13-over and
Andrew Flynn (t60) went 75, 79, 80 to end the week 18-over.
As a group, the Raiders played the front nine holes at even par over the three rounds while they were nine-over on the back nine holes. Wright State was 12-under as a group on par fives, the second-best in the field, while they were 11-over on par threes and 10-over on par fours.
The Raiders continue fall action this weekend in South Carolina, playing in the Golfweek Fall Challenge September 10-12 at the True Blue Golf Club.
