Raiders close January with Sunday road matinee

DAYTON - The Wright State men's basketball team closes out the month of January with a Sunday afternoon visit to take on IUPUI, with tipoff set for 12 p.m. from Indianapolis. Sunday's game closes out a month that featured five road contests and three home games for the Raiders, a trend that will change next week with Wright State playing six of its final nine regular season games at home beginning Thursday, February 1. Fans can follow Sunday's action several ways - via live stats, by watching on ESPN+ or by tuning in to the new home for Raider Basketball 101.5 HANK FM and WING 1410 AM. Chris Collins and Justin Kinner will have all the play-by-play on the radio feed.
Fans can tune into 101.5 HANK FM live over the air in the Dayton metro area, as well stream the station live nationwide through a variety of free streaming apps. Alex Huibregtse scored 28 of his career-high 32 points after halftime as the Wright State men's basketball team went into Cleveland and handed Cleveland State its first home loss of the season with a 107-99 win Thursday night. Behind Huibregtse's career night, Trey Calvin finished with 27 points and was a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw stripe while Tanner Holden finished just shy of a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. AJ Braun and Brandon Noel each ended the night with nine points of their own.

Alex Huibregtse reset his career stats page in the Jan. 25 overtime win at Cleveland State, setting new career highs in points (32), field goals made (10) and in both free throws made and attempted (9-of-9). His 14 field goal attempts were a season high, while his three made three-pointers were tied for the most he's hit in a game in 2023-24.
A SERIES CALLED JAG(S)
IUPUI is 6-16 overall this season and has dropped two straight contests and seven of the last eight games overall. Wright State shot 61 percent as five players had double-digit scoring nights in the first meeting of the season - a 103-74 Raider win on Nov. 29. Tanner Holden finished with a game-high 26 points and Brandon Noel tallied his first double-double of the season (17 points, 10 rebounds) in the November win. Wright State and IUPUI have previously met 25 times entering Sunday's action, with the Raiders leading the series 22-3 having won the last 13 meetings and 16 of the last 17 matchups overall. IUPUI won the first game of the series back on Nov. 29, 1976 (89-84) but the Raiders have had almost all the success in the series since.Â
EYING IUPUI
-IUPUI is 6-16 overall and 2-9 in Horizon League play after a 78-50 home loss Thursday night to Youngstown State. IUPUI opened the season with back-to-back wins over Division III Spalding and Valparaiso later adding a victory over NAIA Cleary - all in November. Since then, the Jaguars have wins over Division III Defiance and Detroit Mercy at home and a road victory at Purdue Fort Wayne (Jan. 17).
CLEVELAND STATE REWIND
Wright State trailed by 12 points at the half at Cleveland State on Jan. 25 before outscoring Cleveland State 71-51 across the second half and overtime, including pouring in 20 points in the five minute OT session. The Raider win snapped Cleveland State's 18-game home winning streak that  spanned 385 days dating back to last season and was Wright State's first win in Cleveland since February 2020.
NATIONALLY SPEAKING. . .
Wright State currently leads the nation with its 53.7 percent overall season shooting percentage. The Raiders' Effective FG Percentage (59.0 percent) is No. 2 and the Scoring Offense (86.3) is No. 5. Individually, Trey Calvin is No. 9 nationally with 146 Field Goals made, while No. 32 nationally with 19.6 points per game scoring average and is No. 8 with his 92.4 percent Free Throw Percentage. Calvin's 392 total points are No. 24, while Tanner Holden (354 total points) is No. 63. Holden's 132 Field Goals made is No. 36 nationally.
