FORT WAYNE – The Wright State men's basketball team saw five players finish in double figures as the Raiders went on the road and grabbed a 106-98 win to hand Purdue Fort Wayne its first Horizon League loss.
Wright State (8-8, 3-2 Horizon) scored the first five points of the afternoon – all from
Tanner Holden – to jump ahead, as the Raiders never trailed and the score was never tied. The Raiders led by 11 at the half and built the advantage to 23 at 85-62 with 8:34 to play before Purdue Fort Wayne (13-3, 4-1 Horizon) made its late push.
Purdue Fort Wayne shot 63 percent over the final 8:34 stretch with a trio of three pointers, but the Raiders closed out the win thanks in part to going 13-of-16 from the free throw line to close the afternoon out and hand the Mastodons their first Horizon League loss and first home loss of the season.
The Raiders' 106 points marked the third time this season that Wright State has hit the 100-point mark, and were the most points an opponent has scored against Purdue Fort Wayne this year.
Tanner Holden finished with a game-high 26 points, one off his season-best, on 10-of-13 shooting as he connected on 5-of-8 from the free throw stripe and added six assists, four rebounds and three steals.
Alex Huibregtse tallied a season-high 21 points, just missing a double-double with nine rebounds as he added six assists of his own.
Trey Calvin finished with 18 points, 10 in the first half, while
Andrew Welage also had 10 first half points on the way to his 15 points.
Brandon Noel was the final Raider in double figures with 13 points, adding eight rebounds, while
AJ Braun notched nine points and six rebounds.
Wright State finished the afternoon shooting 66 percent (39-of-59) while connecting on 7-of-18 (39 percent), including five threes in the first half. The Raiders finished the win shooting 21-of-27 (78 percent) from the free throw line, including a 15-of-19 mark in the second half. Purdue Fort Wayne shot 54 percent overall (34-of-63) and had an 8-of-23 mark (35 percent) from three-point range. The hosts were 22-of-33 (67 percent) from the free throw line, with a 13-of-21 mark in the first half.
The Raiders finished with a 33-26 rebounding edge, with 26 boards coming on the defensive glass, while notching 56 points inside the paint. Wright State passed out 22 assists on its 39 made baskets.
Quinton Morton-Robertson finished with 26 points to lead five Purdue Fort Wayne players in double digits in the loss.
