Pair of double-doubles not enough for Raiders on Friday night

MILWAUKEE – The Wright State volleyball team saw its five-match winning streak come to an end on Friday night as the Raiders fell in five sets to Milwaukee in the first of two weekend matchups between the teams.
 
Wright State (15-4, 7-1 Horizon) and Milwaukee (12-8, 7-1 Horizon) now sit tied atop the Horizon League standings heading into Saturday's meeting as the HL schedule reaches its halfway point.

On Friday, the Raiders took the opening two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-22 before Milwaukee fought back and forced a fifth set after set wins of 25-22 and 25-17. In the deciding set, Wright State tallied the first three points of the set and later led 10-5 before the hosts closed strong and grabbed the win.
 
Wright State opened the match strong, recording hitting percentages of .306 and .227 in the opening two sets before finishing with a .188 hitting mark, while Milwaukee ended the night at a .260 hitting percentage. The Raiders tallied 63 kills to Milwaukee's 64, however Wright State had 29 errors in the loss, its second-most in a match this season.
 
A pair of Raiders recorded double-doubles in the loss. Sam Ott tallied 17 kills and 16 digs for her seventh double-double of the season while Lauren Yacobucci passed out 53 of the Raiders' 60 assists and added 11 digs for her fifth double-double. Yacobucci notched four service aces and Ott added two of her own as Wright State tallied 13 service aces, its most since recording 14 service aces in April 2021 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament against Samford.
 
Behind Ott and Yacobucci, Mya Ayro collected 14 kills of her own while Haley Robinson added nine kills and five blocks. In her first action since September 28, Taylor Bransfield recorded eight kills, five digs and three blocks over the final three sets of the night. Jenny Wessling paced the Raiders with 27 digs as Katie Sowko added 11 digs of her own as four Wright State players collected double-digit digs.
