DETROIT, Michigan – The Wright State men's soccer team moves to 2-4-1 in the Horizon League after falling to Detroit Mercy 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Raiders will play again on Friday, November 1 at 7 p.m., hosting Cleveland State for the final home game of the regular season and Senior Night. Fans are encouraged to keep up with the action in-person with free admission, or online through live stats.
Wright State (6-8-2, 2-4-1 HL) ended the day with seven shots, while Detroit Mercy (3-9-3, 2-2-3 HL) recorded 15 shots. Both teams landed two shots on target. The Raiders bested UDM in corner kicks 6-5, while the Titans put up two saves to WSU's zero.
Leading the Raiders was
Felix Ezekwuka with three shots, putting one on target.
Teun van der Donk added the second WSU shot on goal, his only shot of the day.
Brian Burkett, Edwin Espnial-Elvir, and
Pete Schneider each had one shot on the afternoon.
Alessandro Malterer, now 1-3-1 on the season, logged all 90 minutes of play. Joining him in the complete game were
Jack Jenkins,
Brock Pickett,
Conner Osterholt, and
Cole Werthmuller.
The Raiders had two shots in the first 45 minutes, first by Schneider in the tenth, and later by Ezekwuka in the 29th. UDM had five shots, taking a 1-0 advantage with a goal in the 27th by Guershom Sylvain.
WSU put up five shots in the second half, while the Titans recorded ten shots. Espinal-Elvir had the first shot of the half, missing high in the 50th minute. Ezekwuka had a shot on target in the 53rd, followed by Burkett and van der Donk in the 58th. Ezekwuka had the final Raider shot in the 65th minute. Detroit Mercy raised their advantage as Louis Simon found the back of the net in the 75th minute, ending the day 2-0.
