DAYTON – The Wright State men's soccer team moves to 2-1-1 in the Horizon League after falling to Green Bay 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Wright State (5-4-2, 2-1-1 HL) finished with 12 shots to Green Bay's (8-3-0, 3-1-0 HL) 13 shots, while the Raiders landed five shots on target to the Phoenix's four. GB recorded four saves to WSU's two and had six corner kicks to the Raider's four.
Brayden Tester led the Raiders with two shots, both on target, scoring the lone goal for WSU. Cole Wertmuller recorded two shots, with one shot on goal, followed by
Edwin Espinal-Elvir and
Giorgos Petoussis with two shots.
Brian Burkett,
Henry Hutchinson,
Brock Pickett, and
Teun van der Donk each had one shot, with Burkett and Hutchinson putting their shots on target. Goalkeeper
Joel Shaw logged a full 90 minutes while recording two saves.
Pickett and Werthmuller joined Shaw, each logging 90 minutes of play.
The Raiders had five shots in the first half, as Espinal-Elvir first made an attempt in the eighth minute. Green Bay gained an early advantage, finding the back of the net in the ninth minute. Hutchinson followed, putting a shot on goal in the ninth minute. Picket and Espinal-Elvir each had shots before the 30-minute mark, as Burkett added the final shot of the half, placing one on target in the 43rd minute.
Wright State recorded seven shots in the second 45 minutes, as Petoussis acted fast with shots in the 46th and 52nd minutes. Werthmuller added two shots, first in the 58th minute and later on target in the 65th. Green Bay raised the advantage to two in the 69th minute, as Andrew Paolucci found the back of the net unassisted.
Brayden Tester prevented a shutout in the 77th minute, scoring on a corner kick by Espinal-Elvir. Van der Donk and Tester added consecutive shots in the 87th minute, ending the day with a 2-1 loss to GB.
The Raiders will play again on Tuesday, October 8 at Akron. The game is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff with livestreaming and live stats provided.
