DAYTON – The Wright State women's basketball team fell to Indiana State 68-51 in the 2024-25 home opener Tuesday night. The Raiders will stay at home, hosting Tennessee State on Friday for education day. The game is set for an 11 a.m. tipoff and will stream on ESPN+.
Wright State (0-3) ended the night shooting 32.3 percent overall from the floor, sinking five threes and going six-of-seven on the line. Indiana State (1-2) shot 43.3 percent overall and 33.3 for three, going 11-of-18 on the line.
Two Raiders saw double-figure points, as
Claire Henson had a team-leading 16 points, going two-of-four beyond the arc. Joining in the double-figure scoring was
Amaya Staton with 10 points, shooting five-of-ten overall from the floor.
Ellie Magestro-Kennedy added nine points for WSU, followed by
Macie Taylor with four points.
Florrie Cotterill and
Rylee Sagester each had three points on the night, Cotterill's first collegiate points, while
Olivia Brown,
Chloe Chard Peloquin, and
Makiya Miller each recorded two points for the Raiders.
Staton led the team with six rebounds, closely followed by Brown with five, and Henson and Magestro-Kennedy with four. Henson and Miller each had two assists on the night, with
Lexi Bugajski, Brown, Magestro-Kennedy, and Staton each recording one. WSU had three blocks, two from Staton and one by Bugajski.
The Raiders were shooting 20.7 percent at the half, sinking three from behind the arc, one each by Henson, Magestro-Kennedy, and Sagester. Bugajski and Staton each had a block in first half, and Miller two assists. Wright State's defense held the Sycamores to their lowest scoring quarter in the first, as ISU landed five shots, one from three, for 11 points.
Wright State entered the second half strong, going six-of-seven from the floor at the third quarter media timeout, outscoring both first-half quarters with four minutes left in the third. The Raiders saw their best scoring quarter in the fourth, tallying 20 points while shooting 40 percent overall. Of their eight field goals, Staton had three and Maestro-Kennedy two. Cotterill saw her collegiate first points in the fourth quarter, scoring on a second-chance layup, making it a three-point play with the and-one shot on the line.
Three Sycamores saw double-figure stats, led by Saige Stahl's double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds. Keslyn Secrist led the team in scoring with 18 points, followed by Chloe Williams 16 points. Deja Jones led ISU in assists (8), and Williams in steals (4).
