Women’s Basketball Hosts Tennessee State for Education Day

DAYTON — The Wright State women's basketball program will stay at home, hosting Tennessee State for Education Day on Friday, November 15 at 11 a.m. The morning matchup will stream on ESPN+ and have live stats provided.

LAST TIME OUT
Wright State is coming off a 68-51 loss to Indiana State on Tuesday night. The Raiders ended the night shooting 32.3 percent overall from the floor, sinking five threes and going six-of-seven on the line.
Two Raiders saw double-figure points, as Claire Henson had a team-leading 16 points, going two-of-four beyond the arc. Joining in the double-figure scoring was Amaya Staton with 10 points, shooting five-of-ten overall from the floor. Staton led the team with six rebounds, while Henson and Makiya Miller each had two assists on the night. WSU had three blocks, two from Staton and one by Lexi Bugajski.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
The Tigers finished last season with an 11-19 overall record, going 7-11 in the Ohio Valley Conference. Tennessee State entered the OVC Tournament as the eighth seed, taking Morehead State in the first round before falling to No. 4 Eastern Illinois in the quarterfinals. Under direction of first year head coach Candice Dupree, Tennessee State is 2-1 on the season, defeating Cumberland 72-62 in the season opener and Eastern Kentucky 66-48. The Tigers recently fell at Lipscomb 83-61.
Freshman guard Somah Kamara leads the team is scoring, averaging 16 points per game with 48 on the season, sitting first in the OVC with a 60.6 field goal percentage. Senior forward Lyric Cole leads the Tigers in rebounds, recording 20 on the season, with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds at Eastern Kentucky. TSU is shooting 39.5 overall from the floor and 28.2 for three, going 29-of-54 on the line.
HISTORY VS. TENNESSEE STATE
This will be the first time WSU has seen the Tigers in two decades, last playing each other in the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons. In these two meetings, Wright State came out victorious 84-68 and 79-37, respectively.
CAREER HIGH SEASON OPENER
The Raiders opened the 2024-45 season at Wisconsin, as Claire Henson and Makiya Miller each saw career-highs with double-digit points in the 95-68 final. Miller ended the night with a career high 22 points, marking eight double-figure scoring games in her collegiate career. Miller matched a career high of six rebounds, previously recorded at Michigan State (01/13/23) and Ohio Christian (11/17/22). Joining Miller in double-figures was Henson, tallying 12 points, another Raider career high. Chloe Chard Peloquin matched a career best of seven rebounds in her Wright State debut, recording five points.
NONCONFERENCE TESTS
Wright State's non-conference schedule features ten matchups, opening against Wisconsin (November 5), staying on the road to play the University of Evansville (November 10). return for the 2024-25 home opener, hosting Indiana State on November 12. WSU will stay home to host Tennessee State before their last November road match at Bellarmine on November 21. The Raiders will host their last nonconference matches on November 24 and November 26, taking on Ohio and Findlay, respectively. WSU will close its non-conference slate with games against Grand Canyon (December 18), Georgia Southern (December 19), and Florida Atlantic (December 21) at the GCU Classic.
HORIZON LEAGUE SLATE
Each Horizon League team will play a 20-game double round-robin schedule. Wright State's conference schedule gets underway at Detroit Mercy on December 4 and concludes in the Nutter Center on March 1 versus Robert Morris.
