ROCHESTER, MI – The Wright State volleyball team wrapped up its third straight Horizon League regular season championship with a three set sweep at Oakland on Friday night. The Raiders, who have now won five of the last six HL regular season titles, lock up hosting duties for the 2024 Horizon League Championship next weekend inside McLin Gymnasium with the win.
Wright State (24-4, 16-1 HL) closes out the regular season tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. against Oakland (7-22, 3-14 HL) on ESPN+. The 2024 Horizon League Championship will get underway with two matches next Friday afternoon inside McLin, with the top-seeded Raiders taking on the lowest remaining seed on next Saturday at 3 p.m., with the championship match set for 2 p.m. next Sunday afternoon.
On Friday night, the Raiders rolled to a 25-13 opening set win as they hit .581 as a group in the set before taking set two 26-24 and wrapping up the sweep with a 25-15 third set final. Wright State finished the night with 50 kills and just 14 errors on the way to a .340 overall hitting percentage, while Oakland hit .133 as a group.
Sam Ott led the way with 13 kills, one of three Raiders with double-digit kills, as
Mya Ayro and
Reilly Zegunis each notched 11 kills, with Zegunis and
Elena Dubuc both tallying three blocks.
Lauren Yacobucci passed out 42 of Wright State's 48 assists, adding five digs and three kills, while
Jenny Wessling surpassed 2,000 career digs with a match-best 18 on the night as
Jenny Morey also had double figures with 12 digs of her own.
