Women’s Basketball Returns Home to Host Ohio Sunday Night

DAYTON — The Wright State women's basketball program will return to the Nutter Center to take on Ohio on Sunday, November 24. The 7 p.m. game will be a reunion for one Raider Alum, as former Wright State women's basketball standout Chelsea Welch has been on the sidelines for OU since the 2022-23 season as an assistant coach.

LAST TIME OUT
After shooting 47.1 percent overall from the floor, 36 percent for three, and going 14-of-19 on the line, the Raiders slipped to Bellarmine 79-71 on Thursday night. WSU was led by Amaya Staton's double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. The graduate guard went four-of-five overall from the floor and seven-for-seven on the line. Joining in the double-figure stats were Makiya Miller with 12 points, Macie Taylor with 10 points, and Claire Henson with 10 rebounds.
Wright State ended the night with nine three-pointers, led by Rylee Sagester with three, followed by Miller with two. Henson led the team in assists, recording five on the night, closely trailed by Olivia Brown and Taylor with four each.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Ohio University finished last season going 11-19 overall and 8-10 in the Mid-American Conference. Entering the MAC Tournament as the seventh seed, the Bobcats fell to No. 2 Ball State in the quarterfinals.
Under direction of 12-year head coach Bob Boldon, Ohio is 1-3 on the season, recently to #12/#11 Ohio State, 106-42. The Bobcats last came out on top against George Washington on November 16, 52-40. This will be the first road match for OU, playing all four previous in Athens.
Leading the Bobcats is sophomore guard Bailey Tabeling, recording 52 points on the season, averaging 13 a game. Tabeling ranks 16 in the nation in three-point attempts with 39 on the season, shooting 23.1 percent from behind the arc. Sophomore guard Monica Williams and Tabling both lead the team in rebounds, each tallying 26 on the season to average 6.5 per game. Williams also leads the team in assists (11) and steals (7).
HISTORY VS. OHIO
OU holds the all-time series record over WSU 9-4, with their last meeting being in the 2010-11 season, where the Raiders won 70-57.
STATON HAS 'EM SEEING DOUBLE
Amaya Staton is no stranger to dual-figure stats, putting up a double-double in the last two games. The graduate forward leads the Horizon League and ranks in the top 25 nationally for double-doubles. Staton's first double-double came at home on November 15, tallying 12 points and 13 rebounds against Tennessee State; the second at Bellarmine on November 21, grabbing 11 rebounds and leading the team with 15 points.
TALK ABOUT A FOURTH QUARTER!
In a 77-65 victory over Tennessee State on Nov. 15, Claire Henson logged a career high 22 points. Of her 22 points on the day, 14 were scored in the final ten minutes. In the eventful final period, the junior guard went three-for-three from the floor and eight-of-nine on the line, accounting for two-thirds of the Raiders 21 points in the quarter.
CAREER HIGH SEASON OPENER
The Raiders opened the 2024-45 season at Wisconsin, as Claire Henson and Makiya Miller each saw career-highs with double-digit points in the 95-68 final. Miller ended the night with a career high 22 points, marking eight double-figure scoring games in her collegiate career. Miller matched a career high of six rebounds, previously recorded at Michigan State (01/13/23) and Ohio Christian (11/17/22). Joining Miller in double-figures was Henson, tallying 12 points, another Raider career high. Chloe Chard Peloquin matched a career best of seven rebounds in her Wright State debut, recording five points.
NONCONFERENCE TESTS
WSU will close its non-conference slate with games against Grand Canyon (December 18), Georgia Southern (December 19), and Florida Atlantic (December 21) at the GCU Classic.
HORIZON LEAGUE SLATE
Each Horizon League team will play a 20-game double round-robin schedule. Wright State's conference schedule gets underway at Detroit Mercy on December 4 and concludes in the Nutter Center on March 1 versus Robert Morris.
UP NEXT
The Raiders will stay at home, hosting Findlay on Tuesday, November 26. The 2000's Night themed game is set for a 7 p.m. tip off and will stream on ESPN+.
