Staton Adds Third Consecutive Double-Double Win Against Ohio

DAYTONAmaya Staton added her third consecutive double-double on Sunday night in a 68-57 win against Ohio. The Raiders will play again at home on Tuesday night, welcoming Findlay for a 7 p.m. matchup. The game will have live stats provided and will stream on ESPN+.
 
Wright State (2-4) ended the night shooting 38.3 percent overall from the floor and 29.4 percent for three, going 12-of-16 on the line. The Raiders were led by Staton's double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds, adding two blocks on the night. Claire Henson led the team in scoring, going five-of-ten from the floor, sinking two-of-four from behind the arc. Joining in the double-figure scoring was Rylee Sagester, tallying 11 points on the night, including a team leading three three-pointers.
 
Macie Taylor added nine points for the Raiders, followed by Makiya Miller with seven and Chloe Chard Peloquin with six. Olivia Brown and Lauren Scott both recorded five points for the Raiders, including a three-pointer each.
 
Chard Peloquin ended the night with six rebounds, followed by Brown, Taylor, and Henson with four each. Brown led the team with four assists, closely trailed by Henson with three.
 
The Raiders took an early advantage, holding a nine-to-six lead at the first quarter media timeout. The Bobcats only time with the lead was with just under two minutes left in the quarter, 14-13; though the advantage was short lived, as Taylor sunk a jumper from behind the arc, regaining the lead, 16-14. Wright State ended the first quarter with a 21-14 lead, led by Staton with six points and seven rebounds, closely followed by Taylor with five points, going two-for-two overall with one shot for three.
 
Wright State maintained the lead through the second, recording 16 points and shooting 40 percent from the floor in the quarter. Raider defense held the Bobcats to shooting 28.6 percent with only four field goals made for a 37-22 at halftime.
 
At the half, the Raiders were shooting 35.3 percent overall from the floor, going 5-of-18 from beyond the arc and eight-of-ten on the line. They were led by Taylor with seven points, going three-of-six overall, sinking one-of-three for three. Staton grabbed nine rebounds in the first 20 minutes, tallying six points, four on the line.
 
The third was the closest quarter of the game as OU came back strong, shooting 57.1 percent and sinking eight from the floor, but were bested by the Raider's 52.9 field goal percentage and nine field goals. Sagester led the team in the third, going two-for-two behind the arc, followed by Brown and Miller with a three-pointer each.
 
OU continued to battle in the fourth, holding Wright State to a 22.2 field goal percentage and outscoring the Raiders 14-9 in the fourth. But the Bobcats were not able to overpower WSU's defense, as the Raiders snagged six defensive rebounds and Staton added her second blocked shot of the night.
 
Ohio (1-4) ended the night shooting 38.9 percent overall from the floor, 17.4 for three, and 84.6 percent on the line. They were led by Kennedi Watkin's double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds. Joining in the double-figures was Monica Williams with 18 points.
