Women’s Basketball Readies to Host Findlay Tuesday Night

DAYTON — The Wright State women's basketball program will stay in the Nutter Center, welcoming Findlay on Tuesday, November 26. The game is set for a 7 p.m. tip off and will stream on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT
The Raiders moved to 2-4 on the season, defeating Ohio 68-57 on Sunday night. The Raiders ended the night shooting 38.3 percent overall from the floor and 29.4 percent for three, going 12-of-16 on the line. The Raiders were led by Staton's double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds, adding two blocks on the night. Claire Henson led the team in scoring, going five-of-ten from the floor, sinking two-of-four from behind the arc. Joining in the double-figure scoring was Rylee Sagester, tallying 11 points on the night, including a team leading three three-pointers.
Chard Peloquin ended the night with six rebounds, followed by Brown, Taylor, and Henson with four each. Brown led the team with four assists, closely trailed by Henson with three.
SCOUTING THE OILERS
The NCAA Division II Findlay ended the 2023-24 season with a 14-15 overall record, going 10-10 in the Great Midwest Atlantic Conference. The Oilers entered the GMAC Tournament as the No. 9 seed, falling to No. 1 Ashland.
Under direction of third-year head coach Michele Durand, Findlay is 5-2 on the season, holding a four-game win streak defeating Lake Surperior State (79-40), Saginaw Valley State (65-56), Edinboro (80-74), and Indianapolis (69-50). The two oiler losses game against the nationally ranked #3 Grand Valley State (92-50) and #6 Montana State – Billings (62-52) in the D2CCA Tipoff Classic.
Leading the Oilers is graduate guard Kate Ellis, averaging 12.7 points per game with 89 thus far. Ellis is shooting 50 percent overall from the floor and is 26-of-33 on the line. Sophomore guard Addisyn Freeman leads the team in with 39 rebounds, averaging 5.6 per game. Findlay is shooting 39.4 percent overall from the floor and 28.3 for three, led by sophomore forward MacKenzie Schulz's 36.4 three-point field goal percentage.
STATON HAS 'EM SEEING DOUBLE
Amaya Staton is no stranger to dual-figure stats, putting up a double-double in the last three games. The graduate forward leads the Horizon League and ranks in the top 25 nationally for double-doubles. Staton's first double-double came at home on November 15, tallying 12 points and 13 rebounds against Tennessee State; then at Bellarmine on November 21, grabbing 11 rebounds and leading the team with 15 points, and recently against Ohio with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Lorain, Ohio native is the first Raider to see three-consecutive double-doubles since Lexi Smith in the 2016-17 season; and as of November 25, Staton is one of just 11 other NCAA Division I women's basketball players to do so in the 2024-25 season.
TALK ABOUT A FOURTH QUARTER!
In a 77-65 victory over Tennessee State on Nov. 15, Claire Henson logged a career high 22 points. Of her 22 points on the day, 14 were scored in the final ten minutes. In the eventful final period, the junior guard went three-for-three from the floor and eight-of-nine on the line, accounting for two-thirds of the Raiders 21 points in the quarter.
CAREER HIGH SEASON OPENER
The Raiders opened the 2024-45 season at Wisconsin, as Claire Henson and Makiya Miller each saw career-highs with double-digit points in the 95-68 final. Miller ended the night with a career high 22 points, marking eight double-figure scoring games in her collegiate career. Miller matched a career high of six rebounds, previously recorded at Michigan State (01/13/23) and Ohio Christian (11/17/22). Joining Miller in double-figures was Henson, tallying 12 points, another Raider career high. Chloe Chard Peloquin matched a career best of seven rebounds in her Wright State debut, recording five points.
NONCONFERENCE TESTS
WSU will close its non-conference slate with games against Grand Canyon (December 18), Georgia Southern (December 19), and Florida Atlantic (December 21) at the GCU Classic.
HORIZON LEAGUE SLATE
Each Horizon League team will play a 20-game double round-robin schedule. Wright State's conference schedule gets underway at Detroit Mercy on December 4 and concludes in the Nutter Center on March 1 versus Robert Morris.
