Taylor Tallies Career High 24 Points against Findlay

DAYTON – Wright State women's basketball sophomore Macie Taylor put up a career high of 24 points in a 65-64 loss to Findlay Tuesday night. The Raiders will begin Horizon League play on Wednesday, December 4 at Detroit Mercy. The game is set for a 7 p.m. tipoff and will stream on ESPN+.
 
Wright State (2-5) finished shooting 41.5 percent overall from the floor, going 11-of-29 for three. Leading the team in scoring was Taylor with 24 points, shooting 53.3 percent overall. The redshirt-sophomore guard also led in minutes (32), three-pointers (3-7), and free throws (5-6).
 
Joining in the double-figure scoring was Amaya Staton, tallying ten points on the night. Staton led the team in rebounds – snagging five defensively and three on offense – and blocks (2). Closely following Staton in rebounds was Henson, recording seven, and Chloe Chard Peloquin with five. Henson and Taylor combined for eight of WSU's 13 assists – four each – while Brown and Makiya Miller each had two.
 
Lauren Scott added six points for the Raiders, followed by Olivia Brown, Claire Henson, and Rylee Sagester with five each.
 
Wright State got off to a slow start, being down 20-14 after the first quarter. WSU's defense stepped up, holding the Oilers to 13 points in the second quarter, while Taylor reached double-digit scoring in the second ten minutes. Sinking a three-point jumper, Taylor had tallied ten points with just over three minutes in the half.
 
Wright State had their best shooting quarter in the third, going 8-of-15 overall from the floor. The Raiders quickly took the advantage after halftime, tying the score at 33 with driving layups by Brown and Taylor two minutes into the second half. With just under four minutes left in the third quarter, Wright State held a seven-point lead over the Oilers, raising it to eight two minutes later with a free throw by Chard Peloquin. Findlay went on a 6-0 run to lower the Raider advantage 50-48 by the end of the third.
 
The game stayed close, with neither team holding more than a six-point advantage in the final ten minutes. The Raiders stayed ahead until Findlay tied the score at 60 with three minutes left. WSU battled, lowering the Oiler's lead 64-63 with a Brown three in the final 15 seconds, but ultimately fell short 65-64.
 
Leading the way for Findlay was Kate Ellis with 15 points, followed by MacKenzie Schulz (12 PTS) and Taylor Stanley (11 PTS). Alyssa Ziehler led the team with ten rebounds.
