DAYTON – The Wright State baseball team defeated Milwaukee 12-6 on Sunday afternoon, for their first Horizon league series win on the season. The Raiders are now 11-8 overall and 2-1 in the Horizon league. The Raiders will play again at home on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. against Akron.

The Raiders finished the day recording 12 runs on 13 hits with seven walks against their eight strikeouts. Nate Manley led the team with a personal best of four hits in only his third appearance for the Raiders. Jay Luikart recorded three hits, closely followed by Drew Baker and Patrick Fultz with two hits, while Ben Vore and Carson Clark each added one hit for Wright State. Adding with the seven extra-base hits in the Sunday matchup were Baker, Clark, Fultz, and Luikart each with a double, Ben Vore with a single, and Luikart and Manley hitting homers.

The game began with a slow start, with only one run being scored in the first three innings, that coming from Luikart grounding out for Vore to score in the first. The fourth inning gave Wright State their 4-0 early lead, as Manley added his first career home run and Luikart doubling for Parker Harrison and Dane Thomas to score.

The Panthers took a short lead, adding one run in the sixth, and five more in the seventh. Wright State regained the advantage with three runs in the bottom of the seventh, beginning with a home run from Luikart, followed by doubles by Clark and Fultz, 7-6. The Raiders raised their lead to 12 in the eighth, with hits from Baker, Fultz, and Manley, followed by an RBI hit by pitch on Harrison and an RBI walk for Thomas, 12-6.

Garrett Peters (1-0) was awarded the win, after pitching two and a third innings allowing only one hit with six strikeouts. Starting pitcher Ty Roder put in five and two third innings on the mound, with one run on five hits with two strikeouts.

Johnny Kelliher (0-3) was charged with the Sunday loss after allowing three runs on three hits in his one and a third innings on the mound. Milwaukee finished the day with six runs on nine hits with four walks against their 11 strikeouts. Camden Kuhnke led the team with two hits, one of which being a triple, and three RBI.
