HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY – The Wright State baseball team defeated Northern Kentucky University 12-9 on Saturday afternoon. The Raiders are now 19-15 overall and 9-5 in the Horizon League. The rubber match will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday. Fans can keep up with the action through live stats.

The Raiders finished with 12 runs on 13 hits with four walks against their six strikeouts. They were led by
Patrick Fultz's four hits, followed by
Carson Clark,
Julian Greenwell, and
Sammy Sass with two this each.
Drew Baker,
Jay Luikart, and
Boston Smith each recorded one hit on the day. Wright State added four extra-base hits, with one double each by Greenwell, Luikart, and Sass, and a three-run homer by
Boston Smith.
The game stayed close with the score being tied after the fourth and fifth innings. NKU was the first to put runs on the board, adding a solo-homer in the first. Wright State took a short lead in the third, with an RBI single by Clark sending Fultz to score, tying the game at one. Sass followed with an RBI double allowing Clark to score for a 2-1 lead. The Norse gained the advantage in the bottom of the third, but it did not last long as Baker reached on an error, send
Ben Vore to score in the fourth. The Raiders took the lead in the fifth with a sacrifice fly by Sass, putting Clark across home plate.
The Norse took their final lead of the day after tying the game in the fifth and taking the lead in the sixth. A seven-run seventh secured the Raider's win. The six-run advantage began with a Greenwell double to right center, sending Baker to score. Sass followed reaching on a fielding error, allowing Fultz to score. A Luikart double to right center put Greenwell across home plate. With Sass and Luikart on base, Wright State hit double-figure runs as Smith homered to right center. A Baker single allowed Patrick to score, taking the six-run advantage, 11-5. NKU added one run in the eight, but the Raider's six run advantage was maintained as a Fultz single allowed
Gus Gregory to score in the top of the ninth. The final runs of the day were scored in the bottom of the ninth, as NKU added a three-run home run, ending the day 12-9.
Griffen Paige (1-0) was awarded the win after entering in the fifth to pitch to two and two third innings, allowing only two runs on four hits with two walks and four batters struck out.
Josh Laisure entered in the ninth earning the save, after preventing one runner from scoring and allowing no runs or hits.
Starting pitcher Ben Gerl (3-2) was charged with the loss after allowing seven runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts in six and one third innings of work. The Norse finished with nine runs on 12 hits. They were led by Clearly Simpson's four RBI on two hits, including two home runs.
