Box Score HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY – The Wright State baseball team defeated Northern Kentucky 16-11 on Sunday afternoon, taking the weekend series 2-1. The win came in part from two four-RBI home runs by
Julian Greenwell. The Raiders are now 20-15 overall and 10-5 in the Horizon League.
The Raiders finished with 16 runs on 14 hits with eight walks against their seven strikeouts. They were led by Greenwell's four hits, tallying eight RBI.
Sammy Sass closely followed with three hits, while
Andrew Patrick and
Boston Smith each added two hits.
Patrick Fultz,
Nate Manley, and
Ben Vore each added one hit on the day. Wright State recorded nine extra-base hits, with a double each by Greenwell, Sass, Smith, and Vore. Greenwell recorded two home runs, both grand slams, while Fultz, Manley, and Patrick each added one homer on the day.
The Norse held an initial 4-3 lead after three innings, with the Raiders adding their three runs in the second. The three runs began with a Patrick single sending Vore to score, followed by a two-RBI homer by Manley. The score tied in the fourth, with Greenwell recording his first grand slam, after Smith reached on a single, advancing on a wild pitch, Patrick was walked, and Clark reached on a hit by pitch. After their brief 7-4 lead, NKU tied the score at seven, adding two doubles in the bottom of the fourth.
Wright State held the advantage through the rest of the game, starting with a Smith RBI double in the top of the fifth. After Patrick and Fultz reached base on walks, the bases were loaded for Greenwell to record his second grand slam of the day, taking a 12-7 lead in the bottom of the fifth. The Norse lowered the lead to three in the bottom of the fifth, 12-9.
The Raiders gained a six-run advantage in the seventh, adding a two-RBI homer by Fultz, and an RBI double by Sass sending Greenwell to score, 15-9. A Patrick solo homer in the top of the eighth raised the lead to seven. NKU ended the day adding two runs in the bottom of the ninth, for the Raiders to take the game 16-11.
Ty Roder (1-2) earned the win after entering in the fourth, allowing two runs on one hit with three walks, striking out one batter in one inning on the mound. Starting pitcher
Chet Lax put in three and two third innings of work, allowing one run on eight hits with three batters struck out.
Nick McClanahan (1-3) was charged with the loss after allowing five runs on four hits with two walks in one third inning of work. NKU finished with 11 runs on 14 hits with eight walks against their nine strikeouts. They were led by Treyvin Moss's four hits, including one double and a home run.
