MILWAUKEE, WI – The Wright State baseball team played their first extra-inning game of the season, falling short in the tenth 10-9. The Raiders are now 20-17 overall and 10-6 in the Horizon League. The Raiders finished with nine runs on ten hits with six walks against their 13 strikeouts. They were led by
Andrew Patrick and
Ben Vore's two hits each.
Carson Clark,
Patrick Fultz,
Julian Greenwell,
Gus Gregory,
Jay Luikart, and
Boston Smith each added one hit on the day. Wright State recorded six extra-base hits, with a double each coming from Greenwell and Smith, and four home runs. Patrick recorded two home runs on the day, followed by Fultz and Vore adding one homer each. Baker, Sass, and Smith each reached base on balls twice in the Friday series opener.
The Panthers held an early 5-2 lead after three innings, adding two runs in the first, one in the second, and another two in the third. The two Raider runs came as Patrick added his first homer in the top of the second, an opposite-field hit, tallying two RBI after Smith reached on double. The Panthers added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth, making the score 8-3. Patrick added his second bomb of the day with a solo homer to left center in the sixth. The Raider pitching staff allowed no hits in the fifth and sixth, allowing only one hit in the both the seventh and eighth innings.
Wright State began their ninth inning rally with a Fultz solo homer. With two outs on the board, a
Julian Greenwell double down the left field line sent pinch runner
Carson Clark to score. After Greenwell advanced to third on a wild pitch, and Sass reached on balls, followed by stealing second, Luikart recorded an RBI single. Vore gave Wright State the game-continuing lead with a three-RBI homer to right field. The Panthers added one run in the ninth with an RBI triple, sending the game into extra innings.
The Raiders added just one hit in the tenth inning, that being a
Carson Clark single to third base, but were unable to reach home plate. Milwaukee entered the bottom of the tenth loading the bases with a single, walk, and a balk. The day ended after Zach Lane recorded a walk off single, giving the Panthers the series opening win 10-9.
Cam Allen (0-1) was charged with the loss after entering for the ninth inning, allowing the tying and winning runs on four hits with two walks and a balk, striking out one batter. Starting pitcher
Jake Shirk put in six innings of work, allowing eight runs on nine hits with two walks and two batters Struck out.
Kyle Kesel entered for the seventh, putting in two innings on the mound, allowing no runs, hits, or walks with two batters struck out.
Johnny Kelliher (1-3) earned the win after pitching the tenth inning, allowing no runs with one hit and one batter struck out. The Panthers finished with ten runs on 15 hits with four walks against their five strikeouts. They were led by Zach Lane's four hits, tallying three RBI.
