As a group, the Raiders carded a 282 opening round and sit six shots up of second place Cleveland State (E) heading into Sunday's second round, with Purdue Fort Wayne at one-over in third and Oakland at two-over in fourth also within shouting distance. Wright State collected 22 total birdies on Saturday, five more than the next closest team, while playing par three holes at a two-under average and par fives at a three-under average over the opening 18 holes.
Individually, Hollenbeck opened his tournament with a bogey on the first hole and added a second bogey on the fourth before seven total birdies – including five on the back nine – over the rest of his round on the way to his five-under 67. He enters Sunday one shot ahead of Purdue Fort Wayne's Kasey Lilly and two shots clear of teammate
Andrew Flynn and Brody Simms of Cleveland State.
Flynn started hot, with back-to-back birdies on his first two holes, before navigating four bogeys and three birdies throughout the remainder of his round, which was highlighted by an eagle on the par four 16th hole as he notched his three-under 69.
Mikkel Mathiesen is one-under in a tie for sixth after a steady round that saw him tally four birdies – two on both the front and back nine – against just three bogeys for his round of 71.
Shane Oches and
Adam Horn are both three-over and in a tie for 18th after their first round, with Ochs working around five bogeys and a pair of birdies and Horn navigating five bogeys of his own and a double bogey along with five birdies, including both of his final two holes.
