Raiders slip in series finale at MKE

MILWAUKEE, WI – The Wright State baseball team fell short to Milwaukee 7-6 on Sunday afternoon. The Raiders are now 21-18 overall and 11-7 in the Horizon League.
 
The Raiders finished with six runs on 13 hits with five walks against their eight strikeouts. They were led by Sammy Sass's four hits, followed by Carson Clark, Nate Manley, and Ben Vore each recording two hits. Drew Baker, Patrick Fultz, and Julian Greenwell each recorded one hit on the day. Making up Wright State's two extra-base hits were Sass with a double and Vore with a home run.
 
The game got off to a close start, being tied at two after three innings. Milwaukee put their initial two runs on the board in the bottom of the first with two RBI doubles. Wright State tied the game the following inning with an RBI walk by Vore allowing Manley to score, and Clark scoring on a wild pitch. The Raiders gained the lead in the top of the fourth after Sass reached on a single for Vore to record a two-RBI opposite-field home run, 4-2.
 
Milwaukee took a two-run advantage in the bottom of the fourth, first scoring on an error, then putting up a two-RBI single, and lastly by stealing home, 6-4. Wright State lowered the lead to one in the fifth with an RBI single by Fultz allowing Patrick to score. The Raiders tied the game again in the sixth with a Vore single to second allowing Sass to score on a throwing error, 6-6. The Panthers scored the final and winning run in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single to the left side, taking the series finale 7-6.
 
Josh Laisure (0-2) was charged with the loss after allowing the game winning run, allowing no hits and walking two batters while striking out three in one and a third innings of work. Starting pitcher Chet Lax put in three and two third innings on the mound, allowing six runs on seven hits with one walk and five batters struck out. Cam Allen notably pitched the final two innings, allowing no runs with one hit and no walks, striking out four batters.
 
Keagon Kaufmann (1-1) earned the win for Milwaukee after pitching three innings, allowing two runs on five hits with no walks and one strikeout. Johnny Kelliher was awarded his first save on the season after pitching the final one and a third innings, allowing only one hit with one strikeout while leaving two Raiders on base in the top of the eighth. The Panthers finished with seven runs on nine hits with four walks against their 13 strikeouts. They were led by Carson Hansen and Justin Hausser, each recording two hits with two RBI and one double.
